I remember back on the old board, at the time I was unemployed there seemed to be a lot of others also looking for work. I had a very good job for 12 years, and then our company was taken over and I got laid off. I was unemployed for about 8 months. I went on many interviews for jobs that I was more than qualified for, but just didn't seem to do well on the interviews (I used to be really good at interviewing!) I got a nice severance package from my old company so the situation wasn't financially desperate, but it was disheartening. I also realize I suck at being unemployed - I thought I would LOVE having all that time to do whatever I wanted. But I didn't seem to know what to do with myself. I think I was borderline depressed. Then finally I got a consulting job, with a good company. It wasn't even a job I applied for - a recruiter called me, after seeing my resume on LinkedIn! So that was great except I still had to pay the killer COBRA costs for me and DH (he works for himself so I carry benefits for both). So the good news is, that same company hired me as a full time employee!! It's going on three months now, and I like everything about my new job. In most ways, it is SO much better than my old one. I do make less money, but it's enough. I almost feel like this is where I was meant to be, that's why I screwed up those earlier interviews so badly, LOL.So anyway, I am wondering how everyone is doing, and if you want to share your stories, your job hunting tips, or just vent.

I'm not job hunting but you used your dead horse to bump this so I had to give you at least one reply.

My husband lost his weekly paycheck almost 3 years ago. We are surviving on our small printing company income. Things are simpler and we do without some things, but we've making ends meet and are happy just concentrating on our own business. Plus we love working together.

Not in your shoes but just wanted to say you have a great attitude about it.

I quit my job in Feb due to an uneducated Director of Nursing who lied to me for 6 months about working on a transfer of facilities. She's a horrible DON and a horrible person (unless you're in her clique, which I wasn't because I'm not a brown noser). I applied to nearly 100 places, went on 3 interviews, and finally just started my new job 3 weeks ago. I LOVE MY NEW JOB!!! I have the best employer, the best management team, and the best co-workers!! Like you, I feel like all those months of waiting, and blowing interviews, was for a reason. This place doesn't pay great, but the positive environment and chance for advancement make up for it! I'm only per diem right now but hoping to stick close to the max hours I can work in a week (29), so that they'll offer me a full time/benefitted position It's amazing how much better life is when you love your job Glad you found one you enjoy too! I start my job on Thursday so that's good. I've been interning there for the last 7 months so I already know the boss and coworkers, etc. I was doing a higher level job than the one I will be doing (I haven't finished my masters degree yet so I can't continue with the higher level job). Dh got a job a week and a half ago but it is purely commission and hasn't made anything yet so it's like he's still unemployed… Apparently the first month is really tough so he's trying to hang in there. We'll see.

I just started my new job about a week ago and I am SO stoked that I didn't get any of the other jobs I interviewed for over the last year or so. It's definitely going to be an interesting and challenging position, but I think I am going to learn a lot. I'll get to put some of my education to use and there's a lot of opportunity to move up. My employer offers great benefits that I wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. My only "complaint" is that because I have to pay for all those shiny benefits I won't be making quite as much money as I had originally thought, but I'm okay with that. I haven't had medical/dental/vision benefits in 6 years or paid vacation ever, so I think life is good.
