I think that's the two big die cut machines out there. Is one better than the other or are they basically the same. I want to use them with embossing fokders, bigs thick dies and the tim holtz Thinlets and I guess some sizzlet dies and a few other thing dies. I guess there is an embossing mat that you can get for the shapes that are cut and embossed to. I just don't know what I need I have the original red sizzix and a cuttlebug. The cuttlebug works for most things but I don't have the stupid embossing mat and it seems that it is just a tad to thin to really use the Thinlets easily. I have to add an extra shim. I seem to be using more dies and I know many like these newer machines. Looking online there are a ton of options to . In input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe they are the same thing - one name was used for big box stores and the other for local scrapbook stores.

I got the Big Kick that was branded for the Vintaj jewelry embossing folders. It's the same machine, but was significantly less expensive than the non-Vintaj labeled Big Kick or the Big Shot. I paid right around $50 for it (new) on Amazon.com a while back.

I love my BigShot. It's completely replaced my Cuttlebug. My wonderful husband bought me a BigShotPro for my birthday - love it too!

I replaced my Cuttlebug with a BigShot years ago, and LOVE it. I have used it a ton, and it's still going strong. LOVE my BigShot!

Love my Big Shot, too. Since they are the same machine, I'd go with whichever is cheaper.

Big Shot and Big Kick are the same as Previous Posters have said. You might consider the Big Shot Plus, which is wider and will take the larger 81/2 x 11 embossing folders and some think the will be coming out with BIGZ dies in a larger size so if you are making the investment you might want to consider what they may be coming out with in the future. That is what I did I just purchased the Big Shot Plus in June. I am a previous cuttlebug user as well.

Originally, Big Shot was the Ellison Design machine before Ellison bought out ProvoCraft's share in Sizzix and ProvoCraft came out with their version, Cuttlebug.
Big Kick was a little different, I think the handle and the bed the platform ran on was different NOT mostly flat like the Big Shot. Now, as far as I know, the handle is STILL different but the bed on both are the same, they went more with the Big Shot design but just different colors and sold in different places.

It's my understanding they are the same functionally, but are offered at different price points.

I have the Big Kick, but it is the same basic machine as the Big Shot.
I say get whichever one you can for the best price. I used a 50% off coupon when I bought mine.

I prefer the Stampin Up! Big Shot because of its flat handle design but that's totally a personal preference. I own one of each...they are all the same.

Big Shot, Big Kick and Vintaj-big kick are all the same. Big shot = originally marketed for independent retailers like LSS Big kick = marketed for big box stores like J's and M's Vintaj big kick = marketed for jewelry making. If you already have the Cuttlebug, may be you just need the embossing mat to cut and emboss using dies, Amazon has the embossing mat for around $5.39 with free shipping. AmazonWould you rather make your Cuttlebug work and use the money for additional dies and embossing folder... Or do you really want another machine?

Trusty Red Sizzix?
No I would get the teal/mint green Big Shot. Plus it's cuter to confuse Big Shot and Big Kick and you get a Big Sh!t.
I have the Big Kick and I have looked at it and I don't like the colour. I guess I should take it out of the box. I even bought a Kathy's Cozy to cover it so I didn't have to look at it.
