You can start by finding a book (watercolor paper or mixed media paper or some white card stock sewn or stapled together or an old book) and playing. Draw something or collage something or just get some color down on the paper with sprays or paint or pencils or crayons. And then write something.
There are so many inspiring videos on youtube.

Tips for art journaling. I look at Julie Fan-Balzer site. She has a list of supplies as well as ideas.

Also, I like to watch Donna Downey Youtube videos. I have learns a lot of techniques and how didn't products work. |

I have a Dylusions journal, but I'm not a fan of it. It's okay for using actual Dylusions in, even markers and paint, but watercolour? Forget it. It's angry. Pills up on me. Christine urias has several books in the iBooks library with embedded videos. They are very helpful. I had subscribed to her podcast when it was available in itunes. I always said that if I went whole hog in the art journal direction, I would definitely get a few of these (like the one with journaling prompts).
