I need a new vacuum. I have had Dyson's for a while and really don't like the upright vacuums. I need something that can do both hard floors and carpets.

I have the Dyson Animal canister as well. I love it! It's pretty light, and easy to do stairs now.

I have an old Electrolux canister vacuum and I really like it. I would love to have an updated model-that I would love! This one really needs to be replaced. I much prefer canister vacuums over uprights. This thing can do tile floors, hardwood, and carpet (not to mention other floor types) and has an array of tools that travel on it to do corners and edges and also a brush tool.

I have a Kenmore canister vac. My parents had them growing up and when I left, they gave me one. I love it. Now I have their old one. Haven't had any issues with them at all.

I have a Dirt Devil canister vacuum. I don't think they make my model anymore, but it's super light and has a carrying strap and a very long cord. I have mostly hardwood floors and area rugs. It's getting a little old, so it does a better job on the floors than the rugs. I hated my upright Dyson.

My mom has an electrolux, her first one lasted, I kid you not, at least 35 years. When it finally died, she replaced it with another one. I suspect I'll inherit it when she no longer can maintain her home. I have a Eureka canister that I like and use. We don't have a pet, but I do use it on the hardwoods and the carpet.

The old Electrolux cannister vacs are awesome. They last forever. I have a Kenmore cannister vacuum and really like it. I believe it's the Progressive. I also have a Bissell stick vac that's great for my hard floors. It doesn't even have a beater bar. I can also remove the stick handle and roller bar attachment and it's a dustbuster essentially. I think I paid maybe $26 for it at Walmart.

Another Miele canister owner here. I love it! We've had it for about 12 years and never had a problem with it. We don't have pets, unless dust bunnies count so I can't vouch for how it does with animal hair. But it works great on my old carpet, area rugs, even HW floors. Even with the expense, I'd still buy the same one all over again. (But I'm glad I don't have to, since this one is still going strong!)

Which Dyson canister animal vac do you have? I am in the market also. I have a Kenmore currently and it does a fairly good job. But it seems I am replacing them every two years or so. I need to find a canister that can handle all of our pet hair.

I found mine heavy and awkward to maneuver . Storage was also an issue.

It's big and heavy and I hate it, but it works just fine.

I hated my Dyson animal canister. I found it very awkward to use, especially for just regular room vacuuming. I'm so glad it almost stopped working, lol. The canister and attachments still work, but the main brush head stopped rotating. I had it 4 years. I just bought a Shark lift off upright and I like it so much better.

I know you hate it but, have you looked at the brush head at all? I have to clean mine out fairly often. I apparently shed hair like you wouldn't believe. i have to lay it down and take scissors and cut the hair from around the brush. I do love that vacuum though. I have beat the heck out of that thing. I have 7 cats and vacuum daily. I also had a leak in our spare room, which brought down the popcorn ceiling and some drywall and it go all that up as well. I have had it for at least 10 years, and will never go back to any old vacuum.

It could probably be repaired, but since I didn't like it anyway, I got the Eureka. I do still use the Dyson in my basement with the other attachments.

I have a Hoover which is great for me. It's the orange one. It's easy to carry, fits well on a stair, easy to change bags.
I don't use attachments. We have vinyl in bathroom. Other seven rooms are wood floor. One rug in the parlor and small one by the back door.
The only drawback is that I have to buy the bags online. Online shopping isn't my thing.
Good luck with your search. I hope you'll post a review on whatever you buy.

I have the shark rotator 3 in 1 lift away. It can be used as an upright or a canister- or it can be carried without a base. I prefer a canister vacuum but we have a mix of wood and carpet so this works well for us. It is much cheaper and lighter weight than a Dyson, and i have been happy with it! I bought it with a coupon at bed bath and beyond.

This is going to make me sound like a weirdo. My mom always had a canister vac when we were growing up. I hated that thing. Always so jealous of other people who had the uprights. They looked so fun to use. Not like ours, where you had to tug that stupid box around behind you.
I've always bought uprights as a adult and I love to vacuum. I have a Shark now and I really love that thing.
