She turned 16 on Sept 10. Got her license this morning. Took the car to school. I swear I just put her on the kindergarten bus yesterday!

OMG! Congratulations!
How is it possible that she's sixteen?! Wasn't she just a little kiddo?

WOW! that's quick licensing! And yeah, it's an adjustment. We let ours drive us everywhere so we can guide them on good driving etiquette. Glad we have 6 months between permit and licensing here. I wouldn't have been ready to just hand over the keys on their birthdays.

I swear I had a panic attack the day DS drove off on his own. He's a good kid, but it's just so adult!
Congratulations!

No, how can that be?!?! Surely she's still the same little blue girl in your avatar? WOW! that's quick licensing! And yeah, it's an adjustment. I wouldn't have been ready to just hand over the keys on their birthdays. The idea of 16yo's driving to school makes me shudder in fear - it seems SO young! Here you can't get your licence until you're 18 and have done 120 hours of supervised driving (usually the kids will have held a learner's permit for 2 years). Mind you, I would have LOVED being allowed to drive - legally - at 16!

My dd is not far away from getting her hours and I am very confident in her driving. She was 18 a few months ago but everything here is so close (we are less than 5 minutes from both school and work) it has been hard to get the hours up. How is your daughter going with her hours?

I wouldn't have been ready to just hand over the keys on their birthdays. We have a 6 month wait too, and I am glad! So many have told me that the scariest thing about raising teens is having them drive, and I agree 100%! My husband and I are very lenient with our daughters, they are great kids, and we trust them and they hardly have any strict rules like other teens do. But I are overly strict when it comes to driving!
We also let our oldest drive everywhere (locally). But it is scary! My husband doesn't worry like I do, so I let him to the teaching, and driving with them before I do. And this Jan. we are hiring a driving instructor to take her around. I hear the guy is very strict, and that's what I want!

OP - wow they grow up so fast don't they?
Here they can get their learner's on their 15th birthday and have to drive on it for a year before getting a limited license (allows driving between 6am-11pm for 16's and 5am-1pm for 17s). At 18 they can get their full license

Makes me sad The bad news is the missing your baby and kindergartener is it never gets better. The good news is, she is becoming a fine, young woman and you can see yourself in her and your heart swells .

Yup, it goes so fast! My DD just started kindergarten, I turned around and she was driving to a job she started the SAME day she got her license. (couldn't she have stretched it out a bit to spare me!?) I turned around again and she was driving away to college. So bittersweet is right. Miss her (most of the time!) but also proud of the person she is and becoming. sniff, sniff Since we can't stop it, all we can do is try to embrace each stage. Good luck! ETA Kudos on getting the pics. Driving behind her to take stuff to college, I got a couple of pictures of the back of her car, driving away! Forgot about them until now. Just looked and I have to admit, I'm a bit choked up.

How is your daughter going with her hours? Only 2.5 to go! You should have taken a couple of trips to Melbourne with your DD, that would have racked up a fair few hours! DD and her dad went to Sydney and he let her drive part of the way, only one month after getting her Learners and without me knowing. I would have freaked if I'd known she was going to be doing 110 km/h down the Hume!

She generally will drive half way to Adelaide each trip but still getting the hours around town is the hardest. We have had a few 1 hour each way trips for netball this season so that has helped. Not too long now. I'm having big gynie surgery in mid-December and I've told her that she needs her licence before then as I won't be able to drive for a month or so.
