Here is a link to what I am talking about. DS thinks he might want one for Christmas. I said, "Oh, good idea" ask your Dad for one. (They are made and sold in Japan)... Then he said, "They take a long time to put together". I said, "Honey, you have nothing but time to put one together..." "I know but I want to enjoy it built, too." "Isn't the fun putting it together?" "Yeah..."

DH does these and he got me into doing them. There is places in the US (Cali and I know NJ) that sell and ship them also. I know some other hobby stores do also but idk if those ones ship.
They are fun to put together and some people really get into them. DH has a air paint booth he set up in our old house. YouTube has a lot of people on there putting them together. Cali holds a Gundam event it's like ConicCon but Gundam's.

I will ask DS if he knows about the Cali GundamCons. He will probably know. He is seriously into them. He got a couple in Japan last year. (3 I think) and he wants more.
What do I say when he shows it to me? It's not cute. It's ferocious looking? It looks like a lot of work putting it together? What is the proper response here? He put his other ones together in Japan so I haven't seen his face opening a present such as this.

Some take months to make depending on what scale (size) you get and how much detail you want to do. I think maybe just let him share his hobby with you. I think it's pretty cool a child (even older child) wants to share something like this with their parent. Heads up though if you plan on buying him any from the states or even Japan for Christmas I would order asap. They tend to not have a lot of stock because people buy the more popular ones quickly. Also you should see the life size Gundam, I believe it's in Japan but it's crazy big lol

I will text Ds and tell him that he needs to tell his dad which ones he would like. Off to do that now. Thanks for the reminder!

My DH builds these occasionally. They are huge in Japan and have different series and such. They are very intricate and the quality is excellent.

I just emailed DS' father and suggested he get him one or two for Christmas/birthday which are coming up. Hopefully they won't sell out the one he wants before the holidays.
DS' dentist has his office filled with them so DS loves going there and looking at them!

Another idea is asking him what kind of tools he needs for these. I make DH a stocking each Christmas and put this special paint in there, sandpaper, wire cutters (takes the parts off the big plastic easier) and paint thinner. These are some cheaper options if you want to included also with a Gundam.
