My dd's school gets out early tomorrow and she told me that other schools won't even be in session. I'm sure schools don't celebrate the equinox so just wondering if this is a district thing or a nation.

I think it's a district thing. Every district has their own traditions. There are districts in my state that get out for a week for potato harvest, and not a small number who break for the first day of deer hunting season (but not elk, sheep, duck, etc. just deer and the gun hunt, not the bow hunt.) Our district had several years that they had a holiday on November 1st. I secretly called it the "teachers don't want to deal with kids who overate candy the night before and stayed up way too late and now all have a candy hangover" break. They called it an inservice day.

We have a half day, but it is a teacher professional development day, not an equinox celebration.

Our district tends to put the PA days onto long weekends, such as the Friday before Canadian Thanksgiving, the Friday before Family Day.

We're in school tomorrow. We've never had a Wednesday off unless it was for a snow day. (except for Christmas, etc)

Yes, of course. We don't just have random Wednesdays off. On that same note, our district has started early release on Wednesdays. Every other Wednesday we get out 45 min early so the teachers can have collaboration time.

According to Wikipedia, Jews account for .15% of our population, so, no, we don't get off for Yom Kippur. Nor do we get off for Ash Wednesday, Mardi Gras, or any other religious holiday for any religion--even though we are smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt.

Yes, but he attends a Catholic school. When he was in public school they had an unassigned day off because of Yom Kippur.

Our school is off in recognition of Yom Kippur. Most of the larger schools in our area are off while the smaller districts are still in session.

School's in session tomorrow. However, I've been told that any Jewish students that miss school for any of their holidays are excused. When I asked my school secretary friend how do they know which ones are Jewish vs those who skip, she said the practicing Jewish families usually note in their children's files that they are Jewish.

We're off for what is diplomatically called "Fall Holiday" on the official calendar. Coincidentally, it always falls on Yom Kuppur (except for the years in which is happens to fall on Rosh Hashana).
In the spring we will have "Spring Holiday" which happens to fall on Good Friday.
Our district is really good about trying to accommodate holidays. A couple of years ago the holiday fell on Friday night. Our football game was rescheduled to Thursday without any request or discussion that I was aware of.

We've never ever had an issue. I just send a note and there has never been any comment. But we are in a big urban district. I suspect if we were in the country it would be a different story.

Too many kids were out so the district decided to close down.

We always have the last week in March off - so sometimes it's several weeks different that Easter. School's in session tomorrow for my kids.
