So, I was excited to hear about the Amazon Prime sale because I had been wanting to try it for the ebooks and instant videos...but upon further reading...One book a month? You have to have a Kindle, not a Kindle app? I guess I'm not sold on it anymore

I haven't ever used the lending library but the books I purchase on Amazon, I just read on my i-pad using the kindle app.
I am loving the prime music feature. I can add a whole album or just add the songs I want instead of listening to pandora where you just pick the station, and they pick the songs. I still listen to Pandora but sometimes I want to be able to pick specific songs to listen to. They aren't yours to keep unless you purchase them but they are available anytime in your library through the amazon music app.

Is there a large offering?

I like the music too. You can choose your own music or listen to their playlists.

There is also Kindle First as a part of Prime, where once a month you are offered one of 4-6 books free, before they are released. It is yours to keep. I've gotten some duds, but really all pretty much things I have enjoyed. They usually are all different genres.

You can download them to your device without purchasing them. I only download the ones that I really want to be able to play when I'm not where there is wifi. i haven't done anything with the books because I have a bunch of free ones that I will probably never find time to read them all.

I pay $9.99/month for Kindle Unlimited through Amazon. Unlimited book "rentals", you can have out multiple at one time. I LOVE it!!!! Oh, you can use the Kindle app for it. I have an iPad and a Nook, didn't want to have to purchase another tablet. So I just have the Kindle app on my iPad and read away ETA: I do have Prime, but I have never used the book part of it. I use it for music, movies/shows, and the awesome shipping. Damn, Amazon makes a lot of money off of me. I subscribe to Audible too, which is part of Amazon now.

Another great new feature for the iPhone/iPad Amazon Video app is you can download many of the free Prime videos to your device rather than having to stream and use data. I just download shows/movies overnight while on my home wifi what I want to watch the next few days. It's so much better than having to stream over the 4G LTE.

If you are a big reader, then Unlimited is for you. Some of the books also have the audio versions as well. I love that. I have an hour each way drive and totally take advantage of audio books too :-)

You can try Unlimited for 30 days, so you can see if there is enough to make it worth it for you. If you read a lot of current best sellers, probably won't find much.

I have Prime for other reasons and when I got a Kindle was excited to access the library. Then I realized it was mostly full of books I have not heard of and have no desire to read (with some exceptions - mainly the Harry Potter books that I'm reading with my daughter). For ebooks I rely on the library and snagging deals from the Amazon, Bookbub, and Book Gorilla emails. I read a lot of new releases, so the library is my best bet.

I agree with you, OP. I do manage to find a book each month, but that's definitely not why I'm using Prime. It does have to be an actual Kindle, not the app, for the borrowed books. Which makes it a little bit difficult to find -- I can't seem to search for prime kindle books on my computer to download to my kindle. I have to find it on the kindle, which doesn't have a very good search function. I've liked a few of the kindle first books, also.

You library also most likely has Ebooks available to "borrow". Between library books, my prime membership and free books that are advertised in a couple of facebook groups, I rarely pay for a kindle book.
