Well...nothing. Except maybe moral decency. I would hope one could tell the difference between the two kinds of anon postings though. Well yeah. I would hope. Also, how about plain old precedent? Have I outed anyone who has posted anonymously thus far? That would be a no, so why would I start now? It's like when I had to ban someone recently and at least one person posted their concern that I would suddenly start banning members willy-nilly, all because I'd done it once. Again, no. I've no intention of changing my approach, which is of minimal intervention. I won't be outing anyone today. I hardly need to - my guess is the OP will out themself sooner or later. They'll be the one talking to themselves over on their shiny new blog. When I said out I was really thinking ban... I just don't want that nasty shit to ruin this board. I have complete faith that Admin will handle it appropriately.

Looks like whiner was banned. Hope that all of her/his other accounts were banned too. Appears the smack blog is an epic fail too. Buh-bye bored teenage boy in France.

I'm thinking "need" isn't the right word to use in this case.

As a matter of fact, it's rather insulting the intelligence of the admin to insinuate she can't tell the difference between the two.

I wish Admin would out whoever posted this and let's move on and be adults. I'm late to this convo. What happened?

Didn't the admin say a troll that has the same IP address and more than one user name, all would be banned? That would be awesome.

Ok, so anyone else admit to being completely nosy about who it was - who has been banned recently?

I'll dissent a little bit.
While I completely respect the Admin and her right to just ban someone (as she said she was going to do), I think that it's perfectly reasonable to also state that "xxx user and xxx user have been banned."
I think that if you come looking for trouble, it's your own fault if you find it right back at your front porch.

The only reason I am a bit curious is to see if this is someone that I liked and respected on the board. Otherwise, not so much.

While it's not exactly the same thing, I was curious and looked up the member status for the OP of this thread. It shows that she was banned: Latest Status: Custom Title: This User is Banned Birthday: September 5 Gender: Female Posts: 1 Date Registered: Sep 23, 2015 at 11:27am Of course, it would be time-prohibitive to go through every member, but you could check individuals this way.

I think that if you come looking for trouble, it's your own fault if you find it right back at your front porch. There's nothing I'd disagree with there. BUT I've already seen what has happened when a regular member's account has been deleted - lots of questions about why they left etc. if the answer to that was "they were banned" I can see that turning into a whole inquest of why they were banned, whether it was the right decision, and so on, and I'm not interested in dealing with that, nor do I think it's good for the board to keep rehashing like that. FWIW, banning someone doesn't automatically delete their account, or give any other public indication of the ban, they simply aren't able to log in. Whilst I manually amended the status for the OP of this thread, I probably won't do that ordinarily. ETA If at any point I feel like this was the wrong decision, I absolutely reserve the right to handle it differently in future!

If it wasn't she'd be able to use her regular ID. I don't care who it is. I also don't care if I'm mentioned on a blog. No big deal to me. I don't "know"anyone here so it certainly can't hurt my feelings.

There is a poster who has been noticeably absent. She never posted on this thread, which is odd in itself. In any event, I hope this experience ends helping her in some way.

I did notice that a specific prolific poster has been missing since this thread was posted. ?? I must not be that observant, lol! ETA: nevermind. I think I get it. And I'm not surprised.
