My DH has had a job offer from Verizon in retail sales. He's worked food and beverage for most of his life other than a few years in construction and landscaping (both as an owner of small companies). So it would be a pretty big career change for him.
Just wondering if anyone has any real life experience working for the corporate company.

My son worked for them for a while. He liked it. Great discount on his service It is sales, so he'll need that great personality. My son did really well, he made the bills, but it's not a ton of money. He was also promoted rather quickly. He is now IT for another company & doing his dream job.

Retail Sales in the Wireless Division? My DH is a retired Verizon employee, but he was in middle management on the 'wired' division. If it's the wireless division, for job reviews & discussions, have him check out the wireless forums at HowardForums.com : Howard Forums Verizon Employees ForumOther Verizon jobs reviews (sales and other positions) can be found on Glassdoor.com , but you have to be a member to see the reviews (it's free to join the last I looked). I worked for the wireless division as an rf tech, maintaining the wireless sites over an area between Alabama and Georgia. Great benefits but it was never a very welcoming company to work for. They are a huge company and you are very much just a number. I was laid off right after 9/11 when Verizon took a hit. I kind of figured it was going to happen. I was the newest tech there, the other guys had been there several years. What's the phrase? Last to hire, first to fire? The time I did have there was generally positive.
My nephew worked as a field tech (home/business phones and internet) for Verizon as soon as he got out of the military. He worked for them for over five years and right before he was due to be vested, they laid him and everyone else that was about to be vested off. The coworkers that survived that lay off were then later laid off 2 days before Christmas. New Year's day they had huge ads in the Star Ledger and all the NY papers advertising positions for field techs. Of course the starting pay was significantly less than what my nephew and coworkers had been making.
A good friend of over 20 years works as a tech for them now in N.J. She was just warned by her direct supervisor that "lay offs and cleaning house" was probably going to happen in October. She has been with them for 6 years. She got her job around the time a lot of people were laid off. When she first started there she commented that she thought it was strange that they were hiring after laying so many people off, her supervisor just shrugged and replied "It happens."
I hope it's better in the sales division. Good luck!

Thanks... that forum definitely gave me a list of questions he needs to ask that he never would have thought of.
