I totally get that & support that idea. The whole collection looks like it is from Ali's DD kit (or atleast, some of the papers). Weird. Also? The alphabets only have one letter. Ugh. You can't even say "Merry Christmas" with only one of each letter!

You can't even say "Merry Christmas" with only one of each letter! you'll also have to decide between 'Noel' and 'Joy'!! that is just ridiculous-- they'll probably have to have another one of those threads on the Studio Calico message boards to figure out just what words you can make, like they had recently due to some mix-up in one of their kits.

it's actually easier to figure out what words you CAN'T make--
no COOKIES; no SANTA; no ELF ON A SHELF; no MERRY; no CHRISTMAS; no FA LA LA (though to be honest, you couldn't do that with many letter stickers, lol); no REINDEER; no PRESENTS...

You can't do ORNAMENT or TREE. You can do STOCKING but you can't do STOCKINGS or FIREPLACE. You can do TINSEL but you can't do GARLAND or CANDY CANE. You can do LIGHTS and WREATH but you can't do SEASON'S GREETINGS or HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

That link doesn't work for me. Is it anywhere else? Sorry. Word on the street is that SC has requested other stores not to sale this line before the end of October so that they can carry in their shop first. I absolutely trust the person that told me this, and the link worked for a bit, but now its no longer listed at Bluemoon (further supporting the idea that SC does want exclusivity). That being said, Simon Says Stamp has it in their shop already.

They're co-branding. AC's distribution identifies the line as: American Crafts Studio Calico SevenPaper I'm hot to get Oct Afternoon's Christmas collection. I don't care if I have to wait, I just want it badly. Felix here doesn't do anything for me as I've seen similar designs in the past, even for eother manus. It seems that lately SC just keeps regurgitating the same old designs. I have the OA Christmas line and it is amazing. I got it from My Scraps and More but she is sold out of some pieces already. I just got an email that Blue Moon has it and ACOT has it as well (had the to order the tags from there). It is really beautiful! SC is a big fan of using the same thing over and Over. Paper designs, stamp elements, motifs, embellishments, they really have lost so much of their creativity. I personally think it all started when they hired Matt. He may be a talented graphic artist, but he doesn't know what is usable for scrapbookers. He had a few good stamp designs, like the moon one, but it isn't really his thing. The whole cohesiveness of their kits started to deteriorate when he came on. That is also around the time they stopped using other companies papers as much, it used to be one or two pieces of SC papers with the rest a blend of other manufacturers. Now it is all their papers and since they just keep reusing designs nothing looks fresh or exciting. Not to wk Matt, but, if you follow him on IG, he seems to produce lots of graphics I'd love to use on stamps, or see on patterned paper. My take on SC's recycling is that it may be a cost-saving measure - they may not have to pay as much to have someone change the colors of a design they already own as they would to commission a completely new piece. I've seen something similar happen with set designers - *some* will give a theatre a reduced price if they can recycle one of their old designs (it saves them some work, and they can translate that into working with a company that, otherwise, could not afford their services.) The other consideration I factor in (aside from just differences in taste, as mine is OBVIOUSLY not universal ) is that their designers are probably being instructed to throw much of their effort into working for SC's other acquisitions. I feel like part of the issues with SC's designs began when AC acquired their retail lines. The first collections after the aquisition (Here+ There, Sundrifter, were, in my opinion, markedly derivative of previous AC lines and seemed indicative of a loss of the focused identity SC had under Stephen Ogden and Kelly Purkey's tenures. I think Matt Wilson had a rough few first stamp designs - possibly because he was imitating Kelly Purkey's extremely popular style - but I've consistently liked many/most of his designs, too (YMMV, though! ). I've also wondered if SC is repeating paper patterns/embellishments/alphas in an effort towards replication of the distinctive aesthetic feel they had with both Ogden and Purkey. My impression is that some of the lack of cohesion is the result of an over-abundance of designers contributing to kits - since KP, it hasn't just been Matt Wilson designing, but a number of DT members contributing - Shanna Noel, Nicole Reeves, Tina Aszmus (my favorite), Jen Jockish (at least on the lemon lush line), Natalia Bun, Kinsey Wilson, Marcy Penner, Gerlyn Sy, Maggie Holmes, and possibly others I've accidentally left out - as well as Ali Edwards, Lindsay Letters, Paislee Press, Peppermint Grandburg/One Little Bird, Elsie Blaha Cripe, Jasmine Nora, whoever contributed the AC reprints for their commercial lines, and probably a number of other designers I've missed. I don't feel anyone listed is even *slightly* lacking in design skills, but there's a full gamut of styles and subject matter focus there - without some sort of strong, overarching guidence, what emerges is a disparate compendium of products.

I think you could have a point foucaultgirl, but I also think it goes back to too many kits overall. When I started at SC they only had the scrapbook kit. Then they added the card kit. Then PL. Then Stationary. Then Planner....and then add in all of the add-ons each month, class kits - you can only have so many good ideas at a time and when you are trying to cover so many kits, then eventually you are going to start repeating. Its bound to happen. SC also has the tendency to take a compliment and then beat the hell out of it. People raved about arrows, geo tags, etc and then for the next 9 months you have them in every color and size.
