Tell me I won't regret it. I had the Expression forever and i used it with SCAL. It was familiar and easy. I had a dozen carts and Design Studio. Everything was good. then the Cricut let out a sick little chirp and died.
I always said I would replace it with a Silhoette, but now I'm having buyers remorse. I scrap about four pages a month. What an extravagant tool for that much production! I did sell my carts for $15 each and sold some other household items as well, but I could have used that money for more practical items.
Arg! Talk me off the ledge and tell me I did the right thing!

Umm, I always forget to use mine but when I do, I love it and it adds so much to a project I have a Portrait which is 5? years old and still works great... The software updates but that's free, and the machines last so you'll get a good life span from the one investment

No regrets! It's an amazing machine. Since ive had mine I've done so much with it and I use it more than I ever did my Cricut. I find myself doing even more with it around Christmas especially. Cutting vinyl for gifts, making tshirts for girls' weekends and Santa bags with heat set stuff, glass etched casserole dishes, etc. After using your other machine for awhile, you might want to watch some YouTube videos or take a class to get a quicker feel for what your new machine can do. Kerri Bradford has some good ones. Also, the Silhouette store has a free shape of the week released every Tuesday and you can download it until the next Tuesday. Some are kinda dumb, but I've built up a nice little library with the good ones. Have fun with your new machine and don't feel guilty! You've definitely upgraded

I don't use mine nearly as much as I should, or want to. I don't have enough desk space to have both the Silhouette and my laptop there at the same time, which is a pain. Then my laptop died after six months of threatening to, and I have only just got a new one. I will get back to it though, it is a great machine!

My husband recently told me that you shouldn't have regrets because you made the best decision with the information you had at the time. Anyway my Big Cricut still works (and I use SCAL), but I got a great deal on a Silhouette Portrait. Back when the whole bruhaha, with PC and SCAL was going on, I downloaded SCAL 3 for FREE and now I use it with my Portrait. I didn't have to learn a new software and it made the transition easier. Enjoy the Silhouette - It really does cut better than Cricut. Whenever cutting with Cricut I press the cut button and say "Please Cricut Please, Cut Good For Me."

I love my Silhouette and use it for more than just scrapbooking. If you put it to use, you will love it!

I don't think you'll have any regrets at all. I'm still using my Cricut create with SCAL but when it dies I plan to replace it with either a Cameo or Portrait.

you won't regret it. Just make sure to open it up and use it. It's a lot of fun; you might start to scrap more. Mine sometimes sits for awhile, but once a project comes along or a crop that pauper is worth its weight in gold.
GO watch some YouTube videos and check out Kerri Bradford's site. I also just got an email from silhouetteamerica.com about a silhouette beginner's class on craftsy for $15. You might want to sign up for it. It sounds like it has a lot of good info for a beginner.

Buy a cover for it, but leave it OUT! I use mine so much more when it is accessible. The Silhouette store is awesome. The software is very doable, and it really isn't hard to learn. Download the software now and learn the program before your machine comes. I had my first cut in about 20 minutes of it being out of the box.

There is so much you can do with it. The print & cut feature is amazing (The Silhouette software works much better for this, compared to SCAL). There are a bunch of Facebook groups you can join. You can get instant answers to your questions there if you need help. Silhouette For Beginners is a good one. It is a big group - but it is geared to "help" only. No file sharing or advertising. Response time to most questions is pretty fast. There are quite a few other Silhouette groups. Many are closed or secret, so they don't show up on your regular feed if you post on them.

Back when the whole bruhaha, with PC and SCAL was going on, I downloaded SCAL 3 for FREE and now I use it with my Portrait. I didn't have to learn a new software and it made the transition easier. Enjoy the Silhouette - It really does cut better than Cricut. Whenever cutting with Cricut I press the cut button and say "Please Cricut Please, Cut Good For Me." The new Cricut Explore is a huge improvement. I have an Expression 2 and the fact that it wouldn't cut a perfect circle drove me batty at times! The Explore not only can cut a perfect circle, it also can cut way smaller. I love it for vinyl. I've been able to cut out letters at a quarter inch for my friend and her window designs. I love that I can other images now and my system fonts. I loved my Gypsy but the screen was getting to small for my eyesight. The iPad app is being improved on and they are working on an app for the Android devices. You can know use your own library of cartridges with the iPad. Just recently the image cartridges can now be used with Design Space and you can bring in any digital papers that you would like to use. So say you have the word Happy Birthday and want it to have a pink stripped design. You have the digital paper and can now bring it into design space and apply it to your word. So I think Cricut has been adding lots of new things to Design Space and has changed how a Cricut can be used drastically and for the better. Though the one big thing that impressed me with the Explore when I first got it was that it was so quiet. I swear my E2 sounded like it was trying to kill something when it cut!

You won't regret it. I don't use mine...pretty much at all...but I don't regret buying because I know how awesome it is, when used. Just knowing, at any moment I could unleash its full potential, is worth it. Even if I don't. But I should

I love my Cameo! Even my husband thinks it is amazing! I particularly like it for titles for my pages but it's great for non scrapbooking things too. I've used vinyl to make teacher gifts, the printable sticker paper to make stickers for my daughter's birthday goodie bags, and lots for cards for all occasions. I really don't think you will regret it.

I had a Cricut w/SCAL for eons and I loved it. But I couldn't update my Mac OS because then I couldn't run my old SCAL and if I got new SCAL it wouldn't drive my Cricut. So, I finally got the Cameo a few months ago. It is very powerful, but I haven't put the time into learning it. What I have cut, I do like. For those who know, where can I find a "beginner" group like the one mentioned above, but not on fb? Anyone know of anything like that? I have read some of the Cameo posts on the thread here and they're very helpful too. Overall, I think you will be happy w/your decision.

I only know of groups on Facebook, but their might be a Yahoo group? I don't know how active it is though. There is also once called "Silhouette Plus" that is more of a message board format. It is not very active. The FB groups are almost instant help.
Any reason you don't care to join a FB group? The boards are private - so whatever you post does not show up on your regular feed. None of your friends will see it, unless they are also members of the group.

Well, I took it out of the box on October 1st and I am loving it. Definitely a steep learning curve compared to the Expression, but I'm starting to figure it out. I'm working on a page right now where I combined two different cut files from Wilna Furstenburg and made it my own. That's fun!!!!! Thanks for the support ladies. It might be the tool to get me to scrap more than 4 pages a month. Lol!

I have an old Cricut with SCAL too. I stopped using mine once my Silhouette came to live with me. I do alot of crafty things with mine-vinyl, cards, heat transfer vinyl with shirts and so much more! You totally won't regret it. Just search Pinterest for inspiration.

Glad to hear that you're loving it. I know that there are a tone of groups and youtube videos out there to help you, but I highly recommend trying one of Kerri Bradford's classes. I'm pretty good with my Cameo, but I have learned something new with every Kerri Bradford class I have taken.

I signed up for Wilna Furstenburg's free class "silhouette Cameo Workshop 101" and it's been a great help. She explains absolutely everything from unboxing and setting up the machine right to print and cut and designing my own files. And it's free!

I hope you enjoy it!!! Wished I did. That's too bad. What don't you like about it? First, I think I just like non-electronic things. Second, I always seem to tear the images that I have cut as I remove them from the mat. I even bought the less tacky one and still have issues. I have more trouble than success so I just hate to even use it.
