We don't. If there is a show we like we watch it at that time or on one of those services.

No DVR here. We only have the very basic cable. Let me just say, when we dropped down to the basic, i missed my DVR terribly. But I was over that when the next cable bill arrived. I now watch in real time or watch from the website, or catch it on Netflix/Amazon.

Once upon a time we had cable and a dvr. We moved to Canada and I decided we would experiment without television. I think I miss it more than anybody else, but from what I see when we are in hotels I am not missing much.

No DVR here. We watch so little television and NONE of it is must-see television.
So we either catch it when it's on, watch it online, wait for it to come on Netflix, or go without. Just not a big deal to us.
And to be perfectly honest, ever since the cable company switched to digital, we now have to use two remotes just to turn the tv on, plus a third if we want to use Amazon Fire. We now have digital boxes, plus the box for the Fire. No way I want to add any more equipment, remotes, etc. No way do I want to learn yet another technology. No way do I want to deal with the tv not working (as happens) and then have to spend an hour figuring out if it's the cable signal, one of the boxes, one of the remotes, batteries, etc. It's just become a hassle. When we move, I intend to finally win the battle of no more cable tv and reduce this PITA in my life.

Nope, don't have one. We don't watch that much TV anyway, and when there's a show we want to see, we just get a whole season from Netflix and binge-watch it. So much more enjoyable that way.

I have a TiVo. And I love it! I have been a loyal TiVo user for 10 years now. My TiVo is a magic box. I watch Netflix and Amazon prime through it. I can also watch Hulu and VuDu through it. I can stream music through Pandora or I heart radio. I can watch YouTube videos. I can rent movies from Amazon. Or I can watch movies I have purchased that are in my Amazon library. And of course I record all of my shows that I love. I have one little box attached to my TV, I do not have a cable box. And I have a little box attached to my TV in my bedroom that I can access anything on my TiVo through. I cannot say enough good things about TiVo!

We moved down to a basic cable service about 18 months ago and dropped the DVR then. I lasted about a month without it . What I missed more than recording shows was the ability to hit PAUSE when disrupted by the phone, a kid with a question, timer going off in the kitchen, DH coming home, etc. The news is about the only thing I watch live and it was worth it for us to get the DVR again. When there is a free premium channel weekend we record a ton of movies & shows and have a few shows we record regularly and watch either on delay to FF through commercials or when we get to it. We also have Netflix & Prime.

I have a DVR but I bought mine a few years ago when we switched to digital so no monthly charge. At the time we were watching a reasonable amount of TV and it was useful to be able to record something and watch another channel or record two things scheduled at the same time.
Now I mostly watch Netflix, but we do have a couple of (free) channels that don't have on demand viewing so there are still a few programs I always record and watch later.

We have a DVR but it doesn't add to our package rate here in Canada. The monthly rate is the same with or without it. We also have an android box which I adore! I seriously love this little box of joy! I can watch shows from all over the world, live sports, and movies galore. It's amazing. We only keep the basic satellite package for our local news to be honest. The android does the work of everything else and no monthly fee. Please, do tell more about the android box. I'm finding a couple of different ones and want to be sure I'm looking at the right one.

I don't think I could give up my dvr either, for that exact reason - being able to pause tv when interrupted. But also I prefer to watch it later so that I can fast forward through commercials. But its only on our 2nd tv. The main tv has one of those android boxes mentioned earlier - and I LOVE that thing! It had a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, and if the internet is acting wonky its annoying as heck - but i live in the country so internet here has its moments of unreliability. But I like it WAY better than netflix. And Canadian netflix sucks - jus' sayin'

We have 3 DVRs. We actually don't use the one in the basement living room but the upstairs living room and our bedroom are used frequently. I hate watching tv. lol So I DVR everything, and then watch at my leisure. I just can't make myself sit at a certain time of night to watch a show. Sometimes I let half a season pile up before I start watching. And I keep around 40 Golden Girls episodes DVRed for when Hallmark pulls them off the day after Halloween to start airing Christmas movies. Grrrr. THIS is very important. I must watch my nightly Golden Girls.

I used to have it a few years ago when we lived in another state. I loved it! Don't have it here, though.
I have to say, I used to watch a lot more tv then, and better tv. Now I find that I don't try to watch any shows with a continuing story line because I missed the last 3 or I'm sure I'll probably miss the next 2. I'm always lost. So I just watch stupid cooking or house shows if I have a half an hour here or there.
I could get rid of cable altogether but DH still watches stuff. I have no idea what.

not only do we not have a DVR - we don't have over the air TV/cable/dish either. We have Netflix and a Blue-ray player and that suffices for us This is my family too - we avoid SO many advertisements this way (which is a good thing because my kids get really whiny when they've been at someone else's house watching regular tv). I have HULU as well for myself for the couple of shows I want to keep up with while they are current, but I use it so little I might be getting rid of that subscription soon.

We don't have DVR or cable but I fully admit I will ask my mom to record stuff for me on HER DVR so I can watch stuff when I'm visiting with her. I do have Hulu Plus so most shows I can watch, but things like The Walking Dead need to be recorded.

We don't have cable. We use an antenna and get a few channels on our tv. For the rest of our viewing, we watch Netflix or pick up shows/movies from our library. We like to save money and this works for us.

I'm finding a couple of different ones and want to be sure I'm looking at the right one. We have the On D box. It's the best on the market. We had two before this one and they were spotty and didn't work properly. This one we've had for a year now and it works great. (Google stream-team.ca to get more information) What it does is basically turn the TV into a streaming computer. You add apps to the box (the ON D comes preloaded with all the latest and best working ones) and then you just click the app you want and then search your show and then watch. The shows are by seasons, so you can watch from season 1 until the latest episode on any show. What I also love is that you can watch shows from all over the world. I love UK TV so I watch a lot of that on the box. I also watch the Australian versions of my fave reality shows like Top Model and Bake off too. It's amazing what you can find!!! We watch sports live and also you can watch live TV as well if you load the apps that stream live. It's all up to you and what you want to do with it. Movies are also available to watch and they are usually added a few days after released. For example, we watched Home with the kids 2 days after it was released in the theatre. hope that helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to message me. You do need unlimited or a very high internet cap. An HD movie can take up to a gig to play.

I can't imagine not having one I can never keep schedules straight since so many shows start at a weird time. I like a lot of cable channel shows USA, TBS, TNT as well as normal network channels . I like that once they are programmed it remembers them and records them. I can skip commercials and better yet pause or rewind if I need to. On demand with our system is a pain and you can't fast forward so if you have to stop watching it you can't just start where you left off but from the beginning. That alone drives me crazy. There are a lot of times I start a show and can't get through an entire episode in one sitting. Also I see to like shows or channels that don't have on demand options . I also love to record stuff on free preview weekends and will record a bunch of movies to watch later.

I don't think we could ever go back to life without one. Whether it's cooking shows, kiddy shoes, talent shows, whatever, they are never on at a time that's good for us. These are shows generally not offered On Demand, surprisingly enough. Some of them are discontinued and not available on disc so the only way to watch them again is because I have them saved. And many shows I watch only seem to air once according to our guide, so no re-runs to catch either. We have Netflix and Prime and never use them. 95% of our viewing is on a DVR.
I can't imagine returning to watching tv in real time and having to sit through all the commercials or listen to long-winded introductions or sales pitches (PBS I'm looking at you).

We went without satellite for three year's and had two rokus and a wii instead. Hulu, Netflix, prime and play on was all we needed. Now we have had satellite for a year but no DVR and no premium channels. We share the Netflix hulu and prime with mother in law and all is well.
