I didn't vote. Most tests I take I fall pretty much square in the middle. I am so over the party system.
So I would either vote for the candidate and not the party or write in someone.
If I had to choose one party (and didn't know the candidates) for an election and there was no other way around it I just wouldn't vote.
If a gun was held to my head I would close my eyes and point.

I am a lifelong Democrat who started campaigning for Democratic candidates in high school. When I lived in New England in college, I did sometimes vote for Republican candidates; there were often local races where the Republican candidate was socially liberal, fiscally moderate, running against a fiscally liberal, socially conservative Demcrat. I am not averse to crossing party lines, but I don't see races like that anymore.

Looks like I'm in the minority here. I'm a Republican.

I have always been a Republican. I've lost track of when I last voted for a Republican presidential candidate. I vote for whom I feel will do the best job regardless of the party they belong to.

Since I can only choose 1 (both suck!), I'll go Democrat. I hate the turn the Republican party has taken. Stupid tea party.

Since the numbers are not that far off from each other, I'm curious of the actual reason why we hear more from the left than we do from those on the right.

I really wish more people would opt not to align themselves with one or the other. I think the major parties need a shake-up to stop acting like fighting children and start working together for the common goal of a better run country, and I really think that if more people started opting to back candidates outside of the 2 major parties it would do a good job of sending the message that the citizens of the US are tired of the crap both sides are always pulling. (That being said, I did vote in your poll. ) I agree with you 100 percent, Melanell. We need something different. Right now it feels like the two main parties have a monopoly on our government.

Since the numbers are not that far off from each other, I'm curious of the actual reason why we hear more from the left than we do from those on the right. I would imagine part of that has to do with your perception. I would say the liberals are more vocal and back in the day on the old board, the conservatives were more vocal, but overall, I don't think it is as skewed as you might think. I do think there are a lot of people who are moderate conservatives on this board, but a few of the loud conservative voices scare them away. I know there are some loud liberal voices too, but for me, they usually (usually) aren't quite so over-the-top. Of course, that is probably MY perception talking.

I would imagine part of that has to do with your perception. Could be. I would say the liberals are more vocal and back in the day on the old board, the conservatives were more vocal, but overall, I don't think it is as skewed as you might think. I think it might be though. I do think there are a lot of people who are moderate conservatives on this board, but a few of the loud conservative voices scare them away. The fact that you say liberals aren't "quite so over the top" as conservatives and that it's probably their own fault that they got scared away, makes me think you're right.

I'll bite. I tend not to post on political threads because I am a conservative and a "certain few" liberals really turn me off from posting. I hate the condescension and the argumentative tone. Many times I may be middle of the road on certain issues, but sometimes the liberal rhetoric makes me want to be even more conservative.

Which do you align with the most aka if you absolutely had to vote and your choice was only republican or democrat, where would you land? (Yes I know there are many independents or some that fall here on an issue, there on an issue, but I am asking you to make a very limited choice ) Just curious based on the speaker thread where the board actually lies I'm about 50/50 as a voter and I vote third party a lot. If I had to identify I would choose Democrat because I refuse to be held hostage as a voter by the Christian right who cannot get off their god, gays and guns platform to figure out what we need done in this country.

I'll bite also - I don't post often on political matters (here or elsewhere) because no matter which direction a thread is trending (conservative/liberal, Republican/Democrat, pro-this or anti-that...) I'm almost ALWAYS in the minority AND I prefer dialogue (civil please) to vitirol and name-calling.

I'm a registered Democrat, partially because that's how I was raised, and partially because the Republicans when I was a kid were the old men, with old men ideas. I don't like being painted with a "liberal" brush, but I also don't think I could identify with the strongly conservative ideas that seem to be the alternate. I'd love to see a candidate who just announces what he/she believes is the best for our country without any affiliation.

This is me except for being on the liberal side, and getting more liberal every day. And for me a few conservatives turn me off from posting too. We agree but are opposite LOL. I read from multiple sources to come to my own opinion, so when someone basically says that opinion was because of "the koolaid" I'm out.
