We're moving soon and I can get boxes from work so that's not a problem. My problem is finding free packing paper to wrap fragile and/or glass stuff in. Our local newspaper no longer sells the end rolls that worked so beautifully in the past so now I'm stuck. I'll buy some if I have to but I'm convinced there is a free source out there that I just don't know about. Paper and packing material has to be a by-product from something, right??
Do you know of a source for free (or super cheap) packing material/paper?

I use my towels and dishcloths too, also blankets, sheets, throw pillows, winter coats/clothes, etc.
You can buy newspapers from the paper company, they won't be discounted but you can get a lot of them from the previous week(s).

Is there a recycling program in your neighborhood? Do people still put out their newspapers? I would ask a neighbor. Perhaps a school's recycling program could be an option. I know we had tons of paper in that giant container. Check with an independent newspaper and see if they have extras. Maybe a place like U-Haul has some old extra packing stuff that people bring in when they rent their trucks out. I know they have extra boxes.

Check Craigslist. I sold our packing materials after our last move. I sold dish packs CRAMMED with packing paper for 10. I was really happy that it wasn't going in the landfill. I also sold our wardrobe boxes and all of our other boxes. It worked well for us and the buyers got a great deal.

Do you know of a source for free (or super cheap) packing material/paper? Check craigslist to see if someone who just moved has theirs up. Or make a request on free cycle. I wouldn't use actual printed newspapers. The ink can and does transfer to certain items wrapped in it. It is a shame to end up with some of your items permanently stained from newspaper ink. I also always felt like UHaul's packing paper was a good price but it has been a few years since I bought a box (I use it to cover my crafting table)

Our community has a moving share program you can drop off and pick up moving materials for free.
Saying that a pack of the paper that moving companies use is really cheap it was under $10 for a huge package and I didn't even use half and I have a ton of dishes and breakables.

Newspaper us way too messy. It can stain your dishes. Craigslist is the best source for free paper.

Got to a local furniture store. All their stuff comes wrapped in "foam" paper. I went dumpster diving in their trash after delivery day and filled my suv. FWIW there was only packaging in the dumpster no yucky trash.

We went to the local newspaper office and they gave us some HUGE rolls of paper (I think they were 4 feet+ tall). We've used them for 3 moves and still had paper left for the kids and now grandkids to draw on.

You don't have to worry about ink on your items and it's free.
