I make scrapbook videos with a camera mounted above my desk, shooting directly down onto my work surface. To achieve this set up, I screwed a flag pole bracket to a board, and attached the board to my window frame (painted the same colour and not as noticeable as it sounds!). Then, I purchased this arm and mounting head combo, and slip the arm into the flag pole bracket. Last night the mounting head that screws into my camera and clips onto the arm broke. I could buy the exact same thing I've already purchased, but I'm guessing a second one will likely break, too. I was lucky I noticed my camera swinging around, before the whole piece broke apart! What would this arm/mounting head piece be called? I would like to keep the same set up with the flag pole bracket. Thanks for any help.

What exactly of that item in the photo broke? The part that screws into the camera would normally be called a tripod head but I don't the the way it attaches to the pole is a standard attachment. If the bracket holding the "head" to the pole is what broke you only option is to just replace the whole thing. For $20 it isn't something I would expect to hold together for long term use. Camera weight is hard on plastic pieces.

The bracket / head mount at the top, with the screws in it. But it fits into the arm with a weird clip thing, so I am trying to find a replacement for the whole arm / head mount combo.

You'll just have to replace the whole thing in that case. The platform with the screw in it would be considered a tripod head. But the way they have it attached to the pole isn't a standard tripod head attachment. They have their own "thing" going on there.

If you are willing to give up your current pole, you might try a monopod with a ball head. But, I don't know if a monopod is small enough diameter to fit in your flag staff bracket. You aren't going to be able to just replace the head portion of your current rig and keep the same pole (which is what I understand you want to do)

I know I need to replace the whole thing.

I've heard good things about those! I'll have to think about if I can figure out a way to wrap it around something so my camera can hang above my desk facing downwards.

I'm confused on what you want based on the two quotes from this thread.
