I am having a hysterectomy on the 16th, and will be off work for about 2 weeks, and pretty much in bed/on the couch. I need ideas, I have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, I have some crossword puzzles and Sudoku, some books on my tablet, what else can I do?? Any recovery experiences will be welcome. Having it done laparoscopic, to avoid having to be out of work for too long. Thanks!

Get a coloring book or two! Colored pencils or very thin markers. I did that while I was laid up for a couple of months.

You will probably find you don't feel like doing much and your attention span will be very short. Magazines not books, rubbish telly nothing serious etc. Just be very kind to you self and good luck.

It's been a while, but I loved my 6 weeks off after mine. I made it a goal to read 20 books. Also a good time to get that dvd series you want to binge watch. (I think mine was the Tudors) I also scrapbooked. As far as physical, pay attention to instructions. Don't push yourself, you may feel fine, but the recovery is inside where you cannot see. So don't do the physical work they tell you not to do. Drive, vaccuum, laundry, take out garbage, let others help you with those...don't push yourself. Also, there is a hyster sisters website to help...I got their support 'binder' it has a cold/heat pack pocket....wonderful!!! linkI could not stand sleeping on my back, so eventually I got a pillow pet so I could lean on it and sleep on my side. You will need azo cranberry to help with the urinary issues after..it's like your bladder is retraining itself. Also, immediately after surgery is pain like you've never known with gas issues. I don't remember what I took. I'm pretty lucky, handfuls of raisins have always worked for me.

For one procedure or another, I was off about seven weeks this summer. I caught up on House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Transparent, Grace & Frankie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and I slept a lot. Good luck with your surgery - hope you have a speedy recovery.

Netflix is a black hole Have you checked out The Fall? It's quite good ... the first season is better than the second but I would still recommend it Are you caught up on Orange Is the New Black, Downton Abbey and Outlander? They are my favs

Crafty things: embroidery, knitting, hand piecing quilts. Make birthday cards for the next 6 months. Boring things: repair buttons, etc on clothing, organize photos. Learn something: sign up for an online class or surf YouTube for things you want to learn.. anything from new make up techniques to dish washer repair, to mixed media techniques. Holiday planning: start planning your holiday baking schedule, with dates and shopping lists.

Lately I've been making sure my photos are uploaded to Shutterfly and I use their sister site This Life. So occasionally I take some time to add the info there, like tags and such. So I guess I'm saying (when you're able) is to make sure your things are backed up or make sure your photos are cataloged somewhere? Does that make sense? Journaling?
I don't know my mind is always going. I could spend hours online researching different things I think.
Pinterest?
Recipes?
Anyway, good luck to you and hope for a speedy recovery.

First and foremost be kind to yourself and just relax. Binge watch the Hallmark Channel or Oprah. Take naps! Ask for stool softeners (trust me on this) and drink plenty of water, tea, juice.

Like previously stated, you will sleep a lot. It was surprising to me how much just having anesthesia wore me out!

I had a laproscopic hysterectomy in December. I had it Thursday, was down for the weekend and went shopping at Costco on Monday. I had to walk slow but I got it done! My recovery was so easy!
Okay, I don't really recommend walking all over Costco, but I said that to make a point that you'll probably be able to do more than you think you can. I can't lay on the couch that much so all my plans to binge watch TV never happened. I did end up taking 3 weeks off but not because I was in pain, I was just super tired and still needed to nap throughout the day.
Good luck, you'll be fine and SO happy you had it done.

If your tablet is an ipad, you could get use the Project Life app and do some scrapbooking.
Good luck with your surgery!

PLEASE don't lift anything heavy or do too much. You will have a LOT of internal stitches that you are unaware that you have. It does take a long time to heal after any surgery, it is just that in today's medical world, the anesthetic works differently than before and there are fewer hospital beds, so people are sent home earlier.
There will be some gases that will cause you to look bloated for awhile. All of this has to work itself out of your system.
Take care of yourself and honestly, I think that 2 weeks is not long enough to recover. I would still vote for 6-8 weeks after surgery of this type.
Lift nothing heavier than a tea cup for at least 3 weeks. Sending healing wishes.

I'll second the coloring book idea. And all the suggestions to rest and not overdo it.

I filled a 3 drawer cart with all the things I could possibly do--reading, cross stitch, puzzles, nail polish (pretty manicures daily!!) and essentials like Kleenex lip gloss mints etc and it could be wheeled to wherever I sat!

I had one done laparoscopically about 24 years ago and my recovery was a breeze. I did have to refrain from lifting anything heavy for awhile but other than that I was good to go in about a week. Good luck, I hope your experience is similar to mine.

I don't have any television recommendations for you, but a couple years I had two laproscopic surgeries in the space of a month... My biggest thing was reminding myself that I really DID have alot of stuff done to my innards regardless of what it looked like on the outside, since the incisions were so tiny, you know?? I had to really make myself take the time to heal, and to rest.
and yeah, the gas they use to 'blow you up' to make room to work really made me feel bloated for quite a while. I think it can also dissipate through your torso, back, and shoulders, from what I remember the nurses telling me.

Mine was supposed to be laproscopic but turned into full blown incision when I started to hemorrhage from a huge fibroid. I had a five week recovery and honestly felt good enough to be up and about four days later. For me, I just got tired quite quickly and took naps. I didn't have any plan of what to do and that was the best part. My hubby had child care, cooking and cleaning duty for a while.
