If you haven't already done so, go check out Swapnil's designs from India. The man is amazing. I even can admire virtually all of his designs that I don't like (i.e. the ones that are too far out for my taste), but he has many that are exquisite. IMO he is by FAR the most talented. And he is a well-known designer in India. I'm not sure what happened to him on PR. Re: Ashley. Some heavy women who have the hourglass figure will accentuate that, and this is what I see Ashley doing. But it can be very unflattering. When I looked for her designs online I found very little. I think this season is a dud. Yea I looked at his designs in the beginning of the season, and they are works of art. That is why he is so dissapointing!! Either he crashed and burned on PR due to stress OR his staff back in India contribute quite a bit to his 'design process' that he can not function without them OR he just deemed himself above PR and didn't feel the need to bother. Or partially all three. Whatever it is its a big disappointment

I know that when I'm writing, I can work through an idea for days before I ever put it in paper. If I try to force it, I can come up with something, but it certainly isn't nearly as good as when I mull it over for a while. Maybe Swapnil's the same way.

True
We may never know what happened
I was so shocked there wasn't the 'we'll hear more from you' speech from Tim. And they certainly didn't tell the whole story on PR not sure the even could.
Well may actually watch the reunion show. To see if it comes up

Ugh...this season sucks. I really liked Ashleyat the beginning but I have lost interest. As a plus sized woman, I would never wear a crop top. If you have the confidence For one, go for it but it's not for me. You are all right that her fabric choices are hideous and very old lady.
I was glad Swapnil went home. He really just seemed to give up. My son was watching it with me and thought Candice's (?) client looked just like Michelle Obama after they did her hair.

Wow. Just looked at Swapnil's designs and I have to agree - where the hell was he?
I admit, even though his attitude sucked, I always kept hoping he'd bounce back. Sad, really.
And I'm guessing that's where all Tim's frustration came from? He saw his potential (he must see their portfolios and he has internet access, right?) and just lost it.
Maybe that's why his client was so horrible. She was feeding off Tim's reactions to him?
I guess we'll just have to hope it all comes out in the reunion show!

I think Tim's experience with Swapnil was the straw that broke the camel's back. In a EW interview, it was apparent Tim was exasperated with both the judges and the designers. He doesn't want to compromise the integrity of good design and he felt that the judges were continuously rewarding mediocre designers therefore, lowering the standards: "So when the judges are rewarding work that I think is really inadequate, then the designers think, 'Oh well, now we’re being enabled to work at this pace.'”
He's also bothered by the lack of dedication and too much slacking off: "When there are that many designers, it takes between four and four and a half hours to make one round in the work room. But even when I’m not there, I’m on set all of the time. I’m in the production room, looking at what’s going on and what’s not going on. I see the chatting and the visiting and the snacking and the smoking, and I lose my patience with it. But there hasn’t been a season prior to this where it’s been so egregious."
Last, but not least: "It was the end. Quite frankly, I see my interaction with the designers in many ways being in collaboration with the judges’ interaction. I kept repeating, 'What’s wrong with you judges? Why aren’t you helping me with this whole issue?' We just keep thinking it’s as good as it can get. It’s not as good as it can get. It needs to get a lot better. I kept pushing and pushing, and it still wasn’t happening. Finally, I just thought, 'It’s time.' I went off."

If I try to force it, I can come up with something, but it certainly isn't nearly as good as when I mull it over for a while. Maybe Swapnil's the same way. I've read interviews with famous novelists who claim they sometimes work all day and produce just a few sentences. Good does not always equal fast... ...or exhausted. Here's an article with everything we ever wanted to know about the Project Runway schedule and filming process. They shoot 12 episodes in 5-6 weeks; the contestants wake up at 5am; meal breaks are mandatory; somebody always has some kind of breakdown. (I've always assumed I'd be kicked off the show for not finishing a design...or not getting my shopping done in half an hour. I've costumed a lot of plays. I'm aces at handling some backstage emergencies incredibly fast, but my creative process is very slow and plodding...and I usually wander around fabric stores for hours and THEN walk out empty-handed, announcing "I have to go home and think." ) ETA: I'm really not defending Swapnil's work ethic or his creative process; I just thought we got a typical regrettably-cheesy edit to tell his story, which I suspect we wouldn't have gotten if he continued to design well. But I often HAVE wondered about contestants who might have done much better with more time and sleep.

But I often HAVE wondered about contestants who might have done much better with more time and sleep. That's me! I can't make anything without thinking time, a card, a letter, a note, dinner, a blanket etc.... I have to plan it all out and think through it. I would be a mess on PR, especially on a schedule that is designed to break them down. I think that is why designers like Kini and Michael Costello who basically have worked in their own sweatshop do so well because they are used to creating something fast. The Design school grad who had a whole semester to work on a show is going to struggle. And I'm not certain this is really elevates a good designer. I mean all the designers in the world know when their fashion weeks are and have 6+ months to work on a collection. I'm sure many of them put off a design idea until the next collection etc. but they aren't just grabbing rabbits out of hat. I sort of want to see PR designer edition with Hilfiger, DvF, Donatella, Stella McCartney etc and see if they could do it.

But if you know that about yourself, that you take time to work through designs, would you apply to Project Runway? It's not a brand new show, they know darn well that they have one to two days per outfit. I like to bake but I would never apply to Great British Bake Off or the like.
Honestly, I didn't think Swapnil's person was that bad. I mean, she was bad, but he wasn't listening to anything she wanted. "She doesn't want sleeveless and she doesn't want pants" (or the reverse, I don't remember), "how am I supposed to work with that?" Uh, you make a dress that has sleeves. You're a freaking designer. She didn't ask for things so far removed from reality, she asked for freaking sleeves.
I know several people have said clever editing, but keep in mind several of the designers commented on his work ethic as well. Yes, clever editing for them to put that in the show, but for them to say at all it had to exist in the first place.

Then he made a second outfit and she hated that too. The third outfit he made in 2 hours and it had sleeves but they "weren't the sleeves she wanted! They were too short!" (they were 3/4 length) He couldn't win with her.

I think some don't know that about themselves and see the prize not the torture to get there! How often are any of us in a position to have a 1/14(?) of winning a prize that big? I'm sure there have been several that just applied for the hell of it and got it. Also I think Swapnil fancies himself as Dmitri but he isn't quite that good. Additionally, I'm pretty sure Swapnil got what he wanted, exposure to a larger market. His previous work is solid, the challenges were ridiculous, he already is showing in India to critical acclaim. He now has a western audience name recognition with Indian immigrants being one of the largest immigrant trends in the US. He is laughing all the way to the bank.

A couple of days ago Tim Gunn tweeted: Agree and disagree. The production of the show assigned the real women to the designer. As they have worked with them for years they probably had a good idea how it would play out. So while the producers may not have manipulated what was filmed and how that played out, they did pair the real woman model with a particular designer. If it had been one of those draw a number out of the bag things I would say there wasn't any manipulation.

So, does Tim Gunn HAVE to use his Time Gunn Save...? At this point, I can't really see him using it for anyone -- I don't think there's anyone left that, if they got eliminated next week, Tim would say, "Oh, you went home too soon". I just don't think he truly LIKES any of the remaining contestants. Well, maybe Edmund. Or Kelley.

I'm kind of done with Ashley after last night. As a plus size woman myself, I felt like she wasted an opportunity to show something that would be both creative and flattering. So much out there for plus sizes is the same old thing over and over again, or it's horribly contrived and almost costume-y, which is the category I would put Ashley's in. I would have been nice to see something both creative and realistic. Plus I'm tired of the tear tracks through the horrible orange makeup. I've been done with Swapnil for a few weeks now. That attitude! I do think it's telling, how difficult it was for all the designers to design something for a woman who isn't shaped like a broomstick. Omg those tear tracks! I yell at the tv every time I see them on her.

They definitely had an agenda when pairing them.

Ok just got all up to date on this season. Here is how I am feeling about it Ashley- is far from a plus size designer, The challenge was super simple and she should have been able to pull it off in her sleep. She just need to pull her head out of her ass and start working now trying to win because of her low self esteem Swapnil-he could have been on the top all the way if he pulled his head out of his ass sorry , plus he is not good with dealing with dead lines. No this last challenge was a set up. the crew member was never going to be happy with anything he made.
