For some unexplained reason I can't get websites to open for me. It seems the ones I have bookmarked are fine and open but if it's a site I've never been to it doesn't open. For example I'll google a recipe and the search comes up but if I click on any of the links it starts to download but then just stops.
Please tell me it's as easy as turning something on in my settings. I had the opportunity to buy a new one for $100 a couple weeks ago when I got my ne phone and didn't take it because this one isn't that old. I have the worst luck and am so hoping I don't need to replace it now when the $100 deal is no longer available.
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas for me to try?
Update I tried a few things. I closed a bunch of tabs, removed a bunch of apps, hard restarted it, unplugged my modem, deleted and re-added my network and lo and behold it's working like a champ. Thanks so much for all the tips!

I hate to say this, but have you tried a reset? When mine starts acting funny, it always seems to do the trick.

Yup, I was going to say try turning it off for about 10 seconds then turn it back on. This always works for me-- seems like it's little brain gets scrambled every now and again!! Lol!! Good luck!!

I've tried turning it off a few times and it's still the same. You know when you open a page and that little blue line shows up under the address at the top? Well when I open a page IF the page opens it only goes a little over 1/3 of the way across and stays there. IF the page doesn't open that line only goes about 1/5 of the way across. Blah! I cannot live without my IPad! Well, I could but I don't want to . Bah, humbug!

Do you have a genius bar around? I bring mine to the counter and the nice people always know what to do.

Are you running one of those ad blocker things? I'm running Weblock on mine, and any websites that are at the top of a Google search are probably listed as an ad so even if I click on a site I want to see it wont open because I think Weblock is considering it an advertisement. For me, other things farther down the search list seem to open just fine. Maybe that's it?

If I have trouble opening a site, I click on "open in Safari" and they often behave better.

Hard restart. Hold down the power button and the home button until it shuts off. It will then be able to be turned back on. Also, try turning the wifi on and off. "Forget" the network and reconnect. Lots of little tricks.

Maybe you already know this, but none of your apps close unless you go through and manually close them. If you have too many things open at once, your iPad freezes as you're trying to open something new. To see what's running, double click on your home button and all of your open apps will appear. Close easy one by swiping up to get it off the screen. Also make sure that you don't have too many tabs open at the top of your browser screen. That slows everything down too. Hopefully that will help if a hard reset didn't already solve the problem.

Lots of little tricks. Before you do this, close all the things running open in the background, and close all the tabs open on the net, then do hard reset. I do get stuck at times with the little bar only going so far. I eliminate the multiple things running & it fixes it.

Just in case you don't know how to close the apps running in the background, click on the home button twice and the open apps will appear. Slide each one to the top and it will close.

My iPad was acting funky like that so I turned off my modem & router, waited a few minutes, turned it back on and voila, the websites started opening.

I've been thinking that maybe it was time to buy a new iPad as it was becoming very slow to open websites. I did what you suggested and found that I had around 40 apps open!

She's always telling me that her iPad "won't work" and I check and she has like every single app on it open! I am constantly telling her to close the apps at the end of the day.

Both my iMac and iPad have been doing that since the last update.

I'm waiting for OS9.1 to come out for my phone and ipad- apparently later this month or November. I was going to update to 9.0.2 then saw that you can't revert to 8 if something goes wrong. That put me right off!

I have trouble getting things to fully load, too. I agree with the other posters. Also, what I do is go to click on a link, but hold my finger there until a little menu pops and then I choose open in a new tab. Then I open that tab to see the site. It's a bit of a pain to keep closing multiple tabs, but it's the only way I've found to get sites to load.
