My mom bought my youngest son a brand new Under Armour sweatshirt yesterday. During my oldest son's baseball game today a kid purposely put gum in the hood of my son's sweatshirt! I didn't find out about it until after it had been smashed into the hood. The lining of the hood is mesh. We tried freezing the whole sweatshirt but the gum didn't harden. Does anyone have a suggestion to get this gum out? My son is upset, as is Grandma! Thanks in advance. Update 10/12/15- For some reason peanut butter made me more nervous than Goo Gone so I ended up applying Goo Gone to the gum and it totally worked! I used a plastic spatula to scrape off the large pieces then threw the sweatshirt in the wash on hot. After one cycle all the gum was removed! Thank you to everyone who responded! My kid is so happy he got to wear his sweatshirt to school today.

You do know that you have 'gun' in your title rather than 'gum'?

I'd be much more worried if a gun showed up in there.

craftymom101 You might want to change the title....it says GUN Not sure what to tell you about the gum. Would goo be gone (?) work??

I'd be PISSED at the kid that did it and would even think about asking for the sweatshirt to be replaced

Peanut butter dissolves most everything. Pinesol has the same effect often but i would try peanut butter followed by rubbing dawn into it. What a rude boy! I would be mad too.

I can't believe a kid did that! Does your son know who did it. I would not be happy about that and would want him/her to pay to replace it. I am not good at confrontation, but my husband would be happy to talk to the parents! I wish I was more like him.

I know you said freezing didn't work but you might try rubbing ice directly on the gum.
ETA: I'm mad for you!! If it doesn't come out I would be asking them to replace the shirt!

For those of you who suggested peanut butter, how exactly do I put the peanut butter on the gum? Do I rub it in? Then what? We are a no-gum house so I've never dealt with this before! Thanks for all the replies.
I hate confrontation so I didn't approach the parent. He was the little brother of a player on the opposing team and I didn't want to cause a scene at the fields. I was not happy. :/

Use ice to harden the gum, then scrape off as much as you can. Use Goo Gone to remove the remaining gum. Finally launder as usual after the gum is all removed.
I have used this method successfully several times.

Wouldn't peanut butter or goo gone leave an oily stain or remove the color of the shirt?

I'd use peanut butter and there's no way I'd approach the kids parents to replace it. You win some, you lose some and I'd be afraid the parents might go ballistic on the kid. You just never know how the parents are going to respond. I have neighbors who'd probably get physical with their kid and I wouldn't want to be indirectly responsible for any kid getting hit.

Another vote for peanut butter. That's what I use to get gum out of pretty much everything, even hair.

WD 40 will shift it. I have used it successfully to get the gum out of the pocket in a pair of my son's jeans.

Wouldn't peanut butter or goo gone leave an oily stain or remove the color of the shirt? Generally it all comes out in the wash but that is why I would suggest rubbing dawn dish detergent on it before laundering. That breaks up the most difficult of grease. I always keep an extra bottle in the laundry room because it is crazy how it works so well.

Canned air to "freeze" it, then try to scrape as much as possible
