Our town officially changed Columbus Day to this. I didn't do anything to celebrate but then again I've never celebrated Columbus Day either.

No. I didn't and I won't. At least not on this date. I have a Native American heritage also and I would be happy to celebrate it on another day. Columbus Day can fade away as far as I'm concerned but taking it over just feels like celebrating your victim hood instead of your heritage. It rubs me the wrong way. And for that matter, the U S government has done just as much if not more damage to Native Americans than anyone. Just my personal view on it.
