Have you ever made these instead of whole apples? I've never made whole apples either and wondered if there was a particular type of chocolate I had to use? Or caramel? Do you have any tips or suggestions? Oddly enough, I am having a bit of trouble figuring out the caramel part more than anything else. Seems like a good fallish snack. I don't want to do whole apples, but thought the slices would be fun.

Pinterest - my go to for all things food related.
In all seriousness, I have never tried this. I have made homemade caramel before - I am sure any caramel sauce would work.

I have no advice on the caramel, candy or chocolate coating, but I saw a Pin that showed them using a melon baller to make little bite size "apples", put them on a toothpick and dipped them. Seems like it would be easier for snacking, than a whole caramel covered apple. I've wanted to try it for a while but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I made the caramel sauce from this blog for Christmas gifts last year and it is so good and so easy! That Skinny Chick Can Bake
Because I have a kid that will not eat an apple with the "wrapper" on it, I have to peel them anyway so I just slice them up while I'm at it. I scoop a couple tablespoons of the sauce into a small microwaveable dish, heat it up for 15 seconds or so, stir it up and let her have at it. Did I mention it's good? Crazy good for the small amount of effort it takes to make it from scratch, literally less than ten minutes! I can't comment on the combo of apples and chocolate because that just doesn't sound good to me at all.

I have a thing this week so I think I am going with the slices as the already sliced apples in the package are on sale buy one get one free at Publix. I think it is that *I* want the chocolate apple thing-the people at my party won't care what I bring as long as bring food.

I wonder how long the Apple would last if it is already cut. Even dipped I'm thinking not more than a day or so. So you couldn't make them ahead of time.
We got an edible arrangement that had chocolate dipped Apple slices. It was good the first day.

I have a pretty good Apple dip recipe that I serve with apple slices. If I don't want to babysit the apple slices, I'll use the packaged kind. I'm pretty sure this is the recipe:
8 ounce block cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup caramel topping (for ice cream) 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla
Mix ingredients until smooth, then chill. I'll need to double check the recipe when I get home.

Instead of a whole apple dipped in caramel/chocolate, I use the apple slicer. Then I put the apple along the edges of a dixie paper bowl, so that the center is empty, then I fill the empty spot with whatever combo of caramel, chocolate, nuts that I am craving. You just dip as you go. MUCH less mess.

What I am really going for is a sweet snack for a group gathering and thought this would be fairly easy. But maybe not? I am going to the store in the morning, so I have time to change my mind if someone has a better idea.

I've made caramel dips similar to the one garcia5050 posted above. Tastes great, big hit! Great with sliced apples. I do add a squeeze of lemon juice to a bag of sliced apples if they will not be eaten for a bit. Delicious!
