A few things:
1. Field hockey is a sport. 2. There are more sports than football, basketball & baseball. 3. You are lazy. 4. You cannot write a coherent sentence. 5. You are the A.D., not King.
PS: this is the same guy that built a concession stand w/o a sink. SMH

Ooooh! I'll play this game.
Dear Mr. AD,
Why would you think it was ok to have a band concert the same week as the play? Where are we going to put the sets? The props? The costumes? Where are we going to rehearse the day before the show goes up? And why does the band have to rehearse in the auditorium for the entire 2 weeks before the show? When they have a wonderful, dedicated rehearsal space. I know we have to share the space. But this is really crimping our performance. I know we are a performing arts high school, but this has never happened before. Why now?
We can't pull the sets. They were built on the stage and the doors into the hallway are only 7 feet tall. That's why we strike the set at 11 pm after the last performance. Costumes can't be put back into storage. They are going to have to stay in the dressing rooms, which will be locked. No, the band members may not have access to those rooms.
We will be in the cafeteria rehearsing the night before the curtain goes up. Without light cues, stage cues, props, or costumes. It's like we are being set up to fail.
Arrrgh!
(Our AD oversees the building use.)

Oh yeah, I remember gym teachers like this. Heavily involved in one particular sport on their personal time, which meant that was the sport we would play about 90% of the time in gymclass. Absolutely horrific people to be put as educators for children.

Omg I'm sorry you guys are dealing with crap like that!!!
I'm glad our AD is not an asshat!!! Holy heck none of those things are an issue here, ever.
I hope and pray another district doesn't steal him away before my kids graduate because I know how bad it can be to have a bad athletic director. Thankfully ours is awesome!!
He even showed up to our home band competition. And he supports all sports across the board and scheduling has never been an issue ( though he doesn't schrdule the auditorium) but all the fields and gyms are under his way h and he's great to work with
As for put auditorium all performing arts are under a performing arts director and she would not allow that kind of conflict.

Dear Freshman Football Coach,
Fourteen year old boys who wear braces cannot go for 14 weeks (the length of football season) without seeing the orthodontist. As appointments are not available on weekends, they will need to miss practice, since SCHOOL COMES FIRST.
Do not give my son punishment drills for missing practice! It isn't his choice to miss practice, and he is NOT MISSING CLASS to go to the orthodontist.
What the actual fuck?
(And he received two sets of punishment drills because he had two appointments with different doctors scheduled on the same day, stacked so he wouldn't miss two days of practice. What the actual actual fuck?)

If a doctor's note is sufficient for an excused absence then it is sufficient for ANY extracurricular activity including football. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Five months a year, 2:30pm to 6:30 pm 5 days a week, some Saturday's, then conditioning in the off season. Our kids only get December and January off. Six freakin years of that! Your son isn't going to get to play if you make a stink. Unless he is the next thing since Peyton Manning. Missed practices usually equal less playing time. And a punishment because the others boys WERE there. Schedule appts the week before practice starts. During Bye Week. Pull your DS out of school the last 15 minutes of class at the end of the day and bring him back to practice when he's done with the appt. most classes are pretty much done by then. Schedule the appt as late in the day as you can and pull him from practice a little early. It shows that you are at least trying. And I'd say something at the orthodontists. No evening or weekend appts ever doesn't work with a lot of teen's schedules. Those kids are BUSY! Your kid isn't the only one affected.

Dear AD,
Nepotism at its finest! Your son is variety QB and took 4 league games before he even passed the ball to another teammate. When he needed a rest, Coach passed up other varsity player to bring your other JV son up to QB. He sucks too!

I've promised DS that I won't address it until the season is over in three weeks. But I certainly will be doing so... This was not a written policy, nor one that we were aware of until DS had already done his punishment drills- not that this would have stopped us from TAKING OUR CHILD TO THE DOCTOR! (Is that what the coach is trying to prevent? Medical care? SMH.)

Having just recently rebuilt the "away side " concession stand, which did not have a sink, we wanted to have a sink in it. However the cost to "tap into" the water line and discharge line plus the cost of digging the line and the repair to the asphalt plus the cost of the plumber made it cost prohibitive. The total cost to put in a sink was more than the cost of the concession stand replacement itself. I suspect this factored into the decision to NOT put in a sink. The OP might want to call the local agency and ask what is the cost of "tap in" fees.
My son is involved with XC and Track and Field and I have learned that AD's are tuned into gate receipts which are usually football, basketball, and baseball. They bring in the most money from gate receipts. Previously we had to beg to turn in the lights for an evening meet , but the new AD said it won't be a problem. We have more kids in track than football and each athlete has a $200 pay to participate fee: just like football. However one of our tri- meets has become a cross county rivalry with two other schools so we greatly increased the gate receipts.
AD budgets have been cut drastically and on our district gate receipts are the primary source of AD budget revenue.
Maybe the AD isn't aware of issues scheduling a play and concert in close proximity, until someone pointed that out to me, I wouldn't have necessarily thought about it. I would have looked at the calendar and saw they weren't on the same day, and would have said okay. I would say that whomever requested the auditorium should have requested the block of time the auditorium would not have been available. I'm not defending the AD, but pointing out, the music director or person in charge of the play should have requested a block out of time the stage was not available.

But they are so quick and we never have to wait. It is ridiculously expensive but they are so great! My dentist tells me if I had had braces for my slight overbite as a kid, I would have the issues i do today with my teeth. So I just tell myself I am saving my child loads of pain and expense in the future.

This is a private school, so they can pretty much have whatever policy they want, but I'm going to appeal to the common sense of the principal- does he want kids missing school instead of practice for a valid medical appointment and does it make sense to be punished to take care of your health? FWIW, DH doesn't agree with my ire- he thinks DS should just suck it up (which he did...)

Your student athlete could bear the brunt of any constructive criticism. So you have to ask if it is worth it. Might be worth suggesting that if this is "policy" it be put in the handbook/rules etc. at sign up and be authorized by the administration so they don't have a coach go rogue in any activity. It is a roundabout way of getting the school to look at the policy and discuss the implications.

Dear AD, it's been 20 years and I still remember what you did to my freshman DS. It hurt him so much and you were such a jerk. News flash, you aren't God even though you acted like it. My DS survived your jerkiness and is a productive adult. YOU, on the other hand, did get payback when you were fired a few years later. I hope you can live with yourself.
Signed, A mom

dear mr gym teacher, how is it right that the SAME 14 boys make every single sport team? they all can't be the best kids in the school at ALL the sports??? when you have clear favourites that every kid and parent can see, you should really try to not be quite so transparent. and really, i get that dealing with kids is frustrating, but when my kid comes home and says "why does he answer my questions with "well duh, what you think?", your passive aggressiveness is boiling over. my son just switched schools so my previous note to NEW gym teacher would go like this... dear mr gym teacher, thanks for including all the children that want to play sports, regardless of their skill level or experience. i love that tier A and tier B teams let kids a chance to try something new. i appreciate that you coordinate after school practices with the ukelele teacher. it's awesome that they don't have to choose sports or music. and i love your positive nature with all the kids, you truly make a difference in their lives.

Dear AD, We are so glad you and Ms. Soccer Coach are such good friends, but she seriously is the worst coach I have ever seen. She messes with teenage girls emotions and plays favorites and sits girls without any reason. Each year more girls drop out and this year a fantastic soccer 9th grader opted to go to a different school so she wouldn't have to play for Ms. Soccer Coach. And every year when you tell us in the parent meeting that if the girls have issues they need to talk to the coach first you need to realize they are scared to death of her and if they question her they will be benched. But she sure is a cute young thing so that must be why we keep her year after year....
PS. You charge for watching soccer games so you make some money off our girls is it possible for them to get new socks? Mine daughter hasn't got a new pair in 4 years - they are nasty. I guess the football team needing new uniforms AGAIN is much more important.
Signed A parent who is thankful that my eight years of high school sport are over after this year!!!

Every AD has a boss whether the principal or superintendent. Complain up the chain of command if the situation isn't resolved. Our high school charges for all high school games: soccer, track, football, etc. even charge for middle school games. All other middle and high schools around here also charge for games or meets. Heck even XC meets! your school pays for socks? ? we are a public school and pay $200 pay to participate fee for each sport per child, this includes marching band. Our teams have to organize fundraisers to pay for uniforms, parents pay for warm-ups. We even are having to fundraise to buy equipment like pole vault poles and shot puts and discus, etc. I've never heard of the school paying for socks; always been a parent expense like shoes.
