I like to watch things on my iPad, like previous episodes of Dateline, etc. I know there is a way to hook the iPad up to the TV so I can watch it on the big screen. Our TV had a HDMI port. I want to order the proper cable or cables to accomplish this but when I go to Amazon I get so confused by all of the choices. Can someone here point me to the exact product or products I need to order. I'm sorry to be so dumb about this but I know you'll help me out. Thank you.

Just get a chromecast device and you won't need cables, it will be wireless!

I got an adapter off EBay a couple years ago. I'm still using an IPad 2. Here's a link to a picture of the type of connector. www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-APPLE-LIGHTNING-DIGITAL-AV-HDMI-HDTV-ADAPTER-I-PHONE-5-6-IPAD-AIR-IPOD-/321891075262?hash=item4af23404beThis is not the exact thing since it's for a new iPad, but it gives you an idea of what it should look like. If I remember correctly, it was about $30 then, but that was a couple years ago. You just hook your iPad to the cord then put your iPad power cable into the other hole and plug into your socket. Mine doesn't have a HDMI slot. ETA: mine has a USB cord that goes into a USB port on my tv.

It is truly invaluable to have your whole iTunes movie library accessible so easily on the television. We have only purchased kids movies on iTunes for 3 years now - no DVDs to lose or scratch.

I cannot tell you how much I love the Peas. THANK-YOU! Please explain Apple TV to me. Do you pay a monthly fee for it? Or just buy the box? What does it get you? We used to use our Wii to get Netflix. Is it like that? I see it's only $69. That's not bad depending on what you are able to do with it. It seems better than having cables all over the place. School me in this please!

School me in this please! Yes! It has a whole host of apps - Netflix is one of them, so you can watch Netflix directly from your Apple TV. It also has PBS, and a few other channels that you can stream programs and movies from. Watch ESPN allows you to watch a whole bunch of games that aren't on your local tv coverage. My husband went to Wake Forest and many of their football and basketball games aren't on our regular television, but he is able to watch them on the big tv using Watch ESPN on the Apple TV. You can rent movies and tv shows from iTunes. And, it is simply a finger touch to push what you are watching on your iPad onto your television through the Apple TV.

Yup just pay for the box and if you already have the hdmi cable you're done.
I don't have satellite tv anymore. I have HULU and hubby doesn't want to get rid of Netflix yet but I'm going to downgrade that. That's it. We don't watch much tv anyway. I can stream local news in the morning if I want. Then watch a show or two in the evenings. Usually we each watch what we want and that's it.
May not work for you but we don't have dish network anymore. Just couldn't pay that bill for us not watching much anymore. Didn't pan out for us.
LOVE the apple tv.

I'm in. We have Direct tv out here and don't even get local channels. We hate their dishonest billing practices too, but our local cable company, Charter doesn't come out this far into the country. Maybe if I can get enough out of Apple TV to appease hubby, we will dump them.
I'm off to order Apple TV! Again, I love you guys! Thank you.

Apple TV is the best and cheapest thing out there. It's freaking amazing!
I hope you get the new one - it's supposed to have a cool new remote and a new interface. I'm getting mine for sure! Can't wait to see how you like it.

School me in this please! There is a new Apple TV coming out soon that has a lot of upgraded features, you might want to wait for it. I can't wait to get it just for the Siri voice remote! There is no monthly fee for the Apple TV itself once you buy the box, but if you want Netflix or Hulu or one of those you still have to pay for those services. It works with wireless Internet so you do have to have that too. You can see a lot of the content available if you go to the Apple.com website and click on the link for Apple TV. Besides the pay services, you can also watch movie trailers, stuff on YouTube, anything purchased from iTunes, listen to your whole music library on your iPhone or iPad, and watch anything you have on your iPad or can access through your iPad. We have a whole collection of Disney movies downloaded onto ours that we can play and mirror to the tv. We use ours at our lake cabin in conjunction with our home Dish subscription and a Slingbox so we can watch all of our Dish programming at our lake cabin without having a separate Dish subscription there. It's great. I want to say that I had the whole thing set up and running in under 15 minutes so it was easy too.

Apple TV rocks!!
I used it during our dd's high school graduation party. I streamed a photo display from my computer to the TV using Apple TV. It ran throughout the party. I could of included iTunes music but chose not to as we had a house full of guests and didn't need the music too.

Chromecast only works with certain apps.
I have an Apple TV in my classroom and use it thru my projector for showing my computer (Mac mini) and my iPad (air) on the huge screen in the front of the room. I love it but at the moment it's not playing nice with my devices. I use my iPad to teach off of as I can project the student book and then write on the iPad.
At home, my husband is anti apple so we have Chromecast and dish and Comcast Internet. All we use Chromecast to broadcast is YouTube and some kids apps that have shows for DD. We hardly ever use it.

I have chromecast, and there's a little icon that shows up on youtube.com, and I just mash it and the video comes up. My dh has an android phone, so appleTV wouldn't work for us. I think chromecast came on our tv.
Charter is so much worse than DirectTV. You're not missing anything.
It's so much fun to watch stuff on Youtube and other sites on my TV. I think you'll really enjoy it.

We loved ours until we had it for more than a year and they upped the prices and throttled out internet.
I'm glad you like yours. We did really like the on demand features. DirectTV's is awful.
