I'm having so many problems with my present car that I'm ready to get another one fast. Do any of you have experience with buying from the Enterprise Rental Company. They seem to have one-year-old cars for sale at good prices but I've never bought from them. Just wanted to ask if any of the Peas have had experience doing this.
10/16 pm Update: I did it. I took the plunge and am buying a Chrysler 200 car from Enterprise. It's not a fancy car but I wanted a dependable car for a good price. I was impressed with Enterprise. They seem to have good deals with a warranty and they inspect their cars. If there are any dents underneath the car or any other problems, Enterprise doesn't deal with those and they are sold at auctions. I don't think any hanky panky could go on in the back seat of this car so I'm not even going to think about that angle. lol Thanks for sharing your opinions and experiences with me.

DS bought his from Hertz. It's a great little car and looked like it was brand new. It came with a decent little warrantee as well. We'd definitely buy from rental company again.

Dh and I rented a car to drive out of state to drive back a uhaul, and we were given a Mustang. What should have been a fun drive was not because the car had been driven so poorly that the transmission stuck in a car that had less than 20k miles.
I would get a thorough going over by a mechanic I trusted before I bought a car from a rental company. People don't treat their own vehicles well in a lot of cases, so you have no idea what someone did in a rental.
A car with 1k miles on it I wouldn't be concerned about. A car with more than 20k, yes.

I purchased my Toyota Sienna from Enterprise about five years ago. Got a great price and the car has been wonderful. Easiest car purchase I'd ever made.

We bought one from Enterprise about 5 years ago. A very easy transaction and we have been pleased with the car.

I haven't but I have a friend who bought her minivan from a rental company years ago and had absolutely no problems. Heck, she had less problems than I did and I bought my minivan new off the lot.

The thought of someone at some point most likely having sex in the back seat would deter me from it.

I have not, but have had friends who have. They've been very happy! As another poster suggested, have a mechanic look the car over for you, and get the maintenance records. I purchased a 1 YO car with 11k miles on it last year. Cost me $130 to have my mechanic look at it. Well worth it for piece of mind!

Of course I live in an area where a car with under 30, 000 miles, costs nearly the same as a new car.

I would be concerned with how much use by different people. Plus, I'm now imagining strangers having messy sex in the backseat! We just purchased an Infiniti that came off a 2 year lease so it's certified and still under warranty. We paid just over 1/2 what it cost new and it still has the new car smell! It had all the options that I would have talked myself out of if I was buying new.

I wouldn't, because I only buy manual transmissions. However, it seems like a good deal, except for the visual of sex in the back seat. Apparently, I'm a boring rental car driver

The thought of someone at some point most likely having sex in the back seat would deter me from it. Either I'm really boring, or really tall. Because even if that sounded interesting, we'd have to hang our feet out the side windows to fit.

In 2001 we bought a Toyota Camry from Enterprise. Got a great deal, and that car has almost 300,000 miles on it and it's still running strong! (It was my car, then my older DDs, then mine again, then my younger DDs. Then my older DDs, then back to the younger DD). It is the car that will never die!

Another option is to buy a dealer loaner car. We always buy new but this year I bought a loaner car. It was brand new in January, was driven as a loaner in January and February, and I bought it in March. It had right at 1,000 miles on it when I got it. It then came with a 10 year warranty instead of a 5 year. Still smelled brand new (still does), and was in new condition with very low miles. Just a thought.

While in a rental car, in colorado, our GPS took us down a logging road. It was a treat, and no way to turn around! That ride was bumpy as hell. Because of that, we decided we'd never buy a rental car, because of boobs like us.

My DH works directly with rental company's to repair their cars, mostly body work. His main rental is Enterprise. There is NO way we would buy a car from a rental agency, we know what these cars go thru. My DH has 37 body shops throughout US & deals with rental companies all day, this info is coming straight from him & the big dogs at the rental agencies. Buy a dealer demo, my DH gets a dealer demo that he drives for 3,000 miles then turns it in & it is sold cheaper. It is well taken care of in the 3,000 miles so you are getting a great deal.

Nope. I think there is no way to know how bad they may have been abused. Some of that doesn't show up until miles later.

DH bought his Dodge Charger from Enterprise seven years ago. Still runs like a dream and still as the "e" sticker on the trunk.

Yep, bought my current car at Thrifty Rental Car. It was only a year old and had two years and tons of miles left on the warranty. We haven't had any problems with it and it's 9 years old now. It's a 2006 Ford Taurus we bought in 2007 for 5995.00. We just couldn't pass up that great of a deal. I worked for a Ford dealer for 15 years and knew they were good cars.
