For you that own a GM make car, do you subscribe to OnStar? I have since I bought my Buick almost five years ago. A few months ago, they raised the monthly fee and I really am wondering if it is worth it or not. I get a monthly report emailed to me about any diagnostic issues and reminding me to get oil changes and such. Other than that, I don't use it. I'm seriously thinking about canceling but am afraid I will regret it.
TIA for any advice!

I don't have OnStar -- I have the VW version, which is called CarNet. While I haven't used the service to call for help or directions, I like being able to check the diagnostics on my car and schedule service if needed. I decided I'd rather pay to have peace of mind.

I've currently got it, because it's a new car and I'm in the free trial period. But, I'm not sure that I'll keep it.

If you're worried about diagnostic issues then see how much a 'check-up' at the dealership costs and then compare that with the cost of OnStar.
Personally I wouldn't pay for it. I'm not sure what all it does/can do but I've never had it and have managed just fine. If you have a smartphone and cell coverage you have help at your fingertips anyway.

The BF bought a Cadillac about a year ago. I thought about paying for his OnStar service (after the trial ended) for Christmas. But then I looked at the costs. Right around then, they changed their pricing structure and the only plan that included the Nav system went up to $350/year (I think prior it was $250/year). We own a GPS and I own a smartphone, it just wasn't worth it for us.

We dropped it as soon as the free trial period ended. I have a good working cell phone and a Garmin so it seemed like a waste. Yes I don't get the diagnostics or the emergency help but I'm willing to take my chances on that. Plus Onstar couldn't find my house and Garmin and Google can.
I did keep the XM subscription, though.

DH has it on his truck. He does occasionally use the navigation, but we decided he could just use his GPS when the price went up. Then he managed to lock his keys and our puppy in his truck, in 105 degree weather. He was beside himself panicking. OnStar had the truck open in under a minute. DH decided he would rather pack his lunch a couple extra times a month to offset the annual cost, and keep it for peace of mind.

We had it for a time, paid to keep it (it was 10 years ago probably.) Truck died at a red light. We push it to the side of the road and press the onstar button. They can't diagnose it because it's not running...because it just died in the road! So we have no idea what is wrong with it and they tell us they'll tow it to the nearest dealer. We're an hour from home and wanted our mechanic to look at it not a dealer we haven't even heard of before. Hung up with her, got our own tow and cancelled the service.
Things may have changed in the years since we had it, but that was our experience.

We always have it just in case we get in an accident and are knocked out or something, then OnStar will call for help. We drive in some remote areas so this is helpful!
