We are planning to drive from San Francisco to Denver for Thanksgiving and then back. We are thinking about leaving mid-November, spend 2 weeks in Denver and then head back. We are planning to do the upper route on the way out. SF -->Tahoe/Reno --> Salt Lake, UT --> Moab, UT --> Grand Junction, CO --> Denver. On the way back Denver --> Grand Canyon --> Disneyland --> home.
I would love recommendations for things to see or places to stop. The way there we aren't super tied to the route. On the way back we know we want to do the Grand Canyon and Disneyland, don't really need to do Vegas, but okay staying there if there isn't really anywhere else. Also Colorado peas things to do while we are in Denver. Dh's sisters live in Denver and the family has a house in Keystone. We have done (and will probably do again) Boulder, we have friends up there. But would love other suggestions. Dh will be working at least a week of the time we are in Denver and all the cousins will be in school, so ideas of things I can do with the kids would be great!
It will be dh, dd 4.5, ds 2.5, and I'll be 6 months pregnant. We are in the process of getting a new car, the plan at the moment is an AWD Suburban so we should be good whatever weather and road conditions we encounter.

Check out U.S. Route 50 in Nevada...it's called the loneliest highways in America... we drove on it when we went to SFO.. it was pretty cool... NOT many cars for sure!! There is a tree somewhere along the way that is FULL of shoes..lol.. and the time we went there must have been some big bug invasion because all the blood and guts were all over the highway for miles. It was really entertaining!! LOL

Glenwood Springs, CO has hot springs and an amusement park. Colorado Springs has Garden of the Gods and a really good zoo.

Oh, yes, the adventure Park in Glenwood is great. Semi-expensive though. That time of year see if there's a Groupon.

I would be prepared for snowstorms and severe weather...you never know what you will hit...sleeping bags, food, water in the car with shovel, chains, blankets, etc. it is a long way in the summer...and can be nasty in winter...which is thanksgiving time. boots, and snow gear for everyone.
I have driven that in summer..but i would think it is a bit much in winter. I would fly..but that is me.
