Having fun. Have a good seat but it's right under a tv and the rest of the scrappers have picked 3 dumb movies to watch in a row. I don't really watch movies at a retreat & prefer low volume music or just the general crop noise. I'm not pouting or being crabby just taking a bit to come lay on my bed.
I love retreats but know when I need to regroup.

Whoa! Movies at a crop retreat? I've never experienced that and I certainly wouldn't like it. I go to have fun, interact with other croppers and get some scrapping done. Perhaps the movies should have been shown in another room?

Enjoy your break from the group! I think the dynamics of crops can vary. And my least favorite are the ones where you have to be "on" all the time. I have two regular crops, one crop that has movies going non-stop (we all bring faves to share) and another that the chit-chat is constant. Both now know that I may take a "break" by putting in earbuds and watching a movie on my iPad or listening to music (often I'll leave and shop or go workout by myself, too). Once everyone got used to it, it was totally no big deal. I'm an introvert and get rare breaks from people at work or at home, so I use the excuse that I just need part of the time to myself.

Btw, I'm totally jealous you are at a crop! I haven't gone to one since June and the next isn't until Nov and I am sooo missing it! Me and one of my my crop friends are going to our LSS this week for getting ready for our Nov crop. That will be a little fun in the meanwhile.

I'm jealous too! And that you have a room to go to, to get a retreat from the retreat? Even better!

I'm sorry it went in a direction you didn't like. One time I went to a three day crop where the owners of the facility thought we'd like to kick things off by watching a dvd of a Neil Young concert. We shut it off as soon as he left the room. He came back later and looked confused about why it was off. We still laugh about it years later. Enjoy your quiet time.

Movies are very common for the group I scrap with....Do you have earbuds that you could just listen to music?

Ugh, I hate that. Movies and tv are so distracting to me. I'm glad you have a place to get way, but I'm sorry you're missing good scrappy time.

Oh hell no. No to movies, no to the TV and no to my table being next to the TV. Move the table into your bedroom. I'd be just that desperate.

That's the worst when you're stuck with something you don't like. I've been to crops where the music started to wear on me like a dripping faucet. I hope you can regroup and enjoy your time anyway.

I really admire you for not getting uptight about it but just knowing that you needed a time out - and acting on it. I would have been too afraid to move and ended up seething till I was in a foul mood.

I hope you got some quiet! I sympathize. I had your spot last time. It was sooo loud it hurt, and I'm sure no one was watching. It was only "noise". Hope today is productive and fun!

Not a movie fan either. Music is good. Unless the speaker is right behind your table and the volume is so loud that you can't hear the person next to you. btdt

I'm not one to need background noise, so I agree with you. Our retreat is in two weeks. They watch movies in the evening, but at the other end of the room. We don't usually bother to turn the tv on at our end.
My S/O complaint is my dear, sweet friend who never shuts up! If I go into another room, she follows me in 5 minutes to see what I am up to. From the time we get in the car until we return home, she NEVER stops talking.

At our cousins retreat someone always brings a few movies. (It has become a tradition for one cousin to bring Magic Mike). I have an amazing ability to tune it out though. I can see how it would be annoying if you couldn't do that.

All in all it turned our okay. I was able tune it out and have fun. Got 45 cards done so I feel like I was productive.

I too commend you for your behaviour! I think we all vary soooooo much in what "relaxes" us as background noise. Some like chit chat, some TV/movies, some music. I bet a poll here would be just about even!
I would like to think I might be as adult about the situation as you've been! Hope you can enjoy some of the crop.

I love attending crops so I can scrap...not watch movies/TV. What's even worse is when someone puts on music too loud, inappropriate (cussing) or not my style...and then some gal decides to start humming/singing and is totally OFF-KEY!! ARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!

That is when you can do your best eavesdropping.

My favourite punishment for my son was Mom on time out! Best punishment ever. It never worked because he would kick and scream at the door but I got a few minutes to myself.
Let your self feel the force flow within you! Let the scrapbooking ideas flow from your finger tips. You are a Jedi now. Just enjoy your retreat and love the time out for all the minutes you have left at it!

awww that is too bad.. our group of scrappers always likes the movies on...so we usually have it playing (or a TV show) all the time. We do use our ear buds when not interested in the movies. We always take a group vote on movies though..

It's in a great, quiet, country setting. It's called Whispering Pines.

Lol, I am the total opposite. I always scrapbook with a movie or tv show on in the background. Half the time I'm not even watching. When I've been at crops and there is just music playing, it drives me nuts. I almost feel distracted without having my normal background noise. Have fun at your retreat!
