melissa I found this www.youtube.com/watch?v=USpGmaENMD0 video and it shows some great skirts. It is only 1:00 long. I would love to know how to make some of them. Fabric isn't the problem. I just don't know where to find patterns for them or a video that shows what to do. Anyone have any ideas? I have always wanted a collection of ballet skirts and I can sew them now if I want to. This is a bucket list thing. I have always wanted some since I took ballet lessons with Miss Linda when I was little. Thanks,

Have you looked at Craftsy? They have all sorts of patterns and tutorials.

I buy Jalie patterns for my girls' leotards. I am fairly certain that a few of their leotard patterns also contain other patterns for skirts and such!! Their patterns are great for fit but I am not sure if they are a beginner pattern. They do have to be traced in the size you need and they are French but come in English. There are also no pictures of the instructions, just the words. But I own lots of their patterns and love them all!!

Do you have a serger? Cause the hems/edges on these skirts are a PITA.

At this point, most of my patterns are my own. The most popular skirts right now are not the wrap skirts, but something similar to a circle skirt. I used to make the modified circle skirts (SAB or circle skirts), but they actually have a little more fabric than many dancers prefer. They are very cute though.. here's an easy peasy tutorial SAB skirts They do come up at the sides to make the legs look longer. My skirts have a waistband and are not full circles. They have a front side and a back side, with the front side shorter than the back. They are not quite as extreme at the leg line either. I think my wrap skirt pattern is from Jalie. It is actually super easy. I have only used a rolled hem foot on my sewing machine simply because I haven't made one since I bought my serger. Before I had that foot, I did use the tiny zigzag method on the edge of georgette type fabric. It was OK. The rolled hem is so much nicer though! I have to find time and bug my daughter to take some photos one of these days, esp before she moves away in 2 months! I want to show off the leotards I've made her this fall, if not here, then on my sewing group.

I love hearing about your daughters adventures.

@monicab, she's going to be a trainee in a ballet company in Ohio. Far, far from home! And not in NYC, which I think is really where her heart is. Still, she is excited to begin the next step. In some ways, it is a big step into adulthood, moving away, into her own apartment, etc. Imagine all the college dorm shopping people do on steroids as she won't have a cafeteria or an actual dorm like those in traditional college do. She's still going to continue taking classes via her university online.

bearmom, I use a lot of different patterns for leotards. My favorite is Tutu.com's camisole pattern. I don't make it as a true cami, mine is more of a tank because the straps are wider. I have others from Jalie, Kwick Sew and TutusThatDance.com. I have an old bathing suit and "action wear" book that has a bunch of patterns in it as well. I also have my own that are modifications or combinations of different patterns. If I can remember how to post a photo, this a selfie dd took of the leo I made today based on the the tutu.com cami pattern. The photo does not do the second one justice at all. It's a velvety top with various colors and a maroon/cranberry colored bottom. It's an older Kwik Sew pattern. It's actually a leotard I promised to make her for her 16th birthday but never finished it until last month when I really started sewing with a vengeance again! I have to get her to take some photos of a few of the others. I did a variation of the short sleeved one as sleeveless with no pinch, but a V-neck and v-back with Mickey Mouse lycra on the top. I'm very proud that she has been basically living in the leotards I've made her recently because she thinks they are super comfortable and flattering.

I have done a rolled hem before without a proper rolled hem foot. It looks like it would make things much easier. I need to go "take a lesson" as the LSS (local sewing store) told me. Then I will know how to serge well and can just do my seams that way. It would take no time at all I am sure.
The leotard thing. I love leotards. I love all ballet wear. I always have when I danced. I would look stupid going out of the house in anything dance related until I lose some weight. There is also the issue with the boobs in a leotard. I would look like a freak even though I would love to make some. Since I have started crafting again I totally want to get back into doing the things I used to love. I don't need to sew clothes because of where I work. I want to sew stuff for myself that's fun!

More photos of leotards or more of my ancient turquoise bathroom that is so old that it might just be hip now? LOL
I have got to get her to take photos in them at the studio where there are actual full length mirrors! Or, let me take photos in them at some point. Several of them are basic black with various trims so that she can wear them for class at her school.
Up today is a skirt to match the pink ombre leo. And then a pink furry tail so she can be the Cheshire Cat for class and rehearsals on Saturday. She's not going to wear it going out though. A little too revealing and not quite warm enough. She's going out as Daphne from Scooby Doo. Quick and easy. I had offered to make her a new costume, but she never made up her mind aside from this Cheshire Cat for class.

Well ours is pink so I can't comment on the turquoise bathroom. Thanks for the information, I may have to make some for Christmas.

I have a brown and tan bathroom. We just redid it a couple of years ago. It is dark in there and the lighting is not good. There is no daylight in there either as the window is about 10"x10" up in a corner. It is the best bathroom in the house, though. I would rather have the old blue and pink bathroom back to be honest. It was so light and bright in there!
