And the employee brought me to the paper aisle, scratched her head and said, "Well here's black, here's white, but I can't find your basic gray." I had to try to explain that I was looking for a specific brand of paper. She still didn't understand. Oh well.

Yeah that was your first mistake to ask for a name brand in Michaels lol they are so uneducated in scrapbooking at my stores it is kinda sad and funny when you ask for something. A lot of times if someone asks someone on the staff for something I will show them where they can find it or tell the sales person what it is the person is asking for.

I've had to do that with staff at Archivers in the past. Person comes in looking for a multi-media or a new line that they didn't carry or carry yet or wondering how to use certain items. My Illinois store only had a manager that seemed to know anything. My Ohio store's staff was much more in-the-know, but still lacking in multi-media knowledge.

I can believe that. I went into Michael's last year and asked where the sequins were. I was met with a blank stare and spent the next 10 minutes of my life trying to explain to the lady what sequins are.

Funny. But, you know, as long as the employees can count change and direct me to the general direction of the craft supplies I am looking for, I'm just not going to hold it against them that they do not know a specific brand name.

Lol. Not surprising for Michael's, but Archiver's? I've never been to one, but aren't they a scrapbook store?

I agree. It IS funny about Basic Grey but I wouldn't hold it against them either. Every employee can't know every brand name of every craft. There are tons! I also do the thing where I direct people to scrapbooking or stamping stuff when the Mike's employee doesn't know or is standing there making guesses. I think sometimes the customer is confused - "does she work here or … ?" No, just a do-gooder who can't stand not helping if I know where something is

Lol. That is too funny. Given the scrappy knowledge of the employees at my Michael's, I would never have even asked for a specific brand. I'd feel lucky if they could even point me in the direction of the scrapbooking section. The story gave me a little chuckle, though.

Funny - and sad. That's why I mostly shop online now. Staff in the big box stores have no idea about anything they stock.
