My subscription at the Sihouette design store is coming to an end soon. It's been useful, but recently I have had a hard time spending my credits.
If you used to subscribe but didn't renew, did you regret not renewing instead of just renewing with a smaller, less expensive sub?

I will not be renewing. I am finding that too many of their designs lately are so childish and I don't have a use for them.

I've not had a sub but whenever there's a good deal going I scroll through designs for hours on end and fill my basket - or rather, I used to do. These days, I hardly find anything I want (or haven't got...) There was a time when I'd find lots of Lori's 3D bits and pieces, albums and boxes but there's only so many variations on those you can use. I can't see the point in buying alphas when we can cut any ttf and I'm not really into the print and cut stuff. I agree with Mom, too, the designs are way less sophisticated these days too! ETA: I just upgraded my software to Designer Plus because it will read my sewing machine files too...could be that I will be exploring a new ways of using it soon (when I find the key to the 36 hour day )

I need to find a tutorial on how to use that feature. LOL Never done it.

I had a subscription when I first bought my Silhouette, then took a year off. Recently I renewed but only for 6 months and have had a hard time finding anything to buy except fonts... I did just buy Design Studio and can now make my own simple shapes, so I probably won't renew at the end of my 6 months.
One of my problems is some of the shapes need to come with instructions...and it's too late to find that out until after you buy the shape and try to cut it. What peice should be what color etc.

I've had a subscription for the past few years - smaller now than it was initially... but I too find that there are not enough designs these days to warrant renewing for an entire year. I'm giving mine up when it comes due!

I did not renew. For awhile I grabbed the weekly free one but since then I don't even miss it. I can grab a particular shape if I need it. I ended up paying for a bunch I will never use just to use the credits.

I almost didn't renew last year. However, since I was paying $16/month, I figured that if I downloaded more than 16 designs I liked, I was coming out ahead of just buying them on an individual basis. Yes, I downloaded many designs that I will probably never use, but I also downloaded a lot more that I really like, but would not have wanted to spend that much by buying individually. It has still cost me a lot less than the Cricut cartridges I own, and at least I chose all the designs instead of having a bunch I don't like just to get the ones I wanted.
If I were still seeing enough designs I liked, I would renew without hesitation. However, I'm just not seeing much to get excited about. The style of many of the designs changed awhile back, and they just aren't my style.
The free files they offer are usually nothing I would ever use, either. I think I will let my sub lapse.

I stopped subscribing several years a go. I do not buy many designs anymore and if there is something I want I just buy it. I got a good deal when I bought my first Sil SD so I have so many designs I really do not need to buy any. I bought a lot of the basic designs when I started and they are the ones you use over and over. I bring a lot of my digital designs from my digi scrapping over and use them.

I let my subscription go for about a year. I then renewed during a subscription sale but at the lowest level.

threegirls, since you let your sub lapse for a year but eventually renewed it, was it because you regretted letting it lapse, or that the lowest level sub was cheaper than buying individual files here and there?
Thanks!

I let mine go. Seriously had a hard time finding anything to buy. No regrets so far.

I let mine go, as well. I was struggling to find files to buy, so I knew it was time. I also am not fond of the cutesy files.. It's been a couple of months and I don't even go look at the site, so I haven't bought anything either.

I had the $150 a month for two or three years. I built up a great collection and didn't feel the need to keep shelling out $17 a month so I let it go and I don't regret it one bit. I signed up for Citrus Twist PL kit in its place and I like getting the actual physcial product instead for a change.

I would miss mine. I am still at the $9.99/month.
Did you know you can go as low as $4.99/month for $10 worth of credits. Plus if you wait until they go on sale it would be even less.

It's not really a money issue, although I might consider a smaller sub. I like the convenience, and getting designs for 11 cents each on average is definitely better than spending time designing my own files (although I am perfectly capable of doing so). I have a ton of files. It's not like I need to keep subbing. It's handy when I need a design fast, for a theme or subject that I don't normally have on hand. I'm just frustrated at how long it is taking me to find enough files to use up my credits. This is my last month, so once it's done, any unused credits will be gone--unless I resubscribe, and I'm not really sure that I want to. Having a sub makes me feel like I need to keep checking the site. I have to finish getting this house ready to sell, and I shouldn't be wasting time hunting for files that I probably don't need.

I did not renew my subscription last year and never regretted it. I spent far less on files at full price than I did for the subscription. Plus when I had the subscription, I was just picking files because I had credits where as now I get something I need and will actually use.

I let my sub lapse in May. I may renew at some point. So I have been visiting every few months and adding the new files to my wish list. That way, if I renew, I have a ready made list to buy from. I know if I renew, it will be at a much lower level. I just have such a library, I don't feel the need for the larger sub.

I let my subscription go. I had a hard time finding designs I wanted, and usually just ended up buying fonts before my credits expired.
I haven't missed having the subscription, at all.

Thank you to every one who replied. It makes me feel better about deciding not to renew.
