I have tried Plated (similar concept and price point). Like someone said above about being for DINKS might be on to something...I am a DINK.
It was fun to try for a few meals, allowed me to try something just for fun, made cooking a breeze with ingredients I may not have on hand or would buy (pomegranate vinegar anyone?) and with Plated you get the recipe too (if anyone is interested you can get the recipes for their meals without purchasing them, free for everyone on their website). I actually fully intend to do it again at some point or give it to someone as a gift.

I would not do it because I have a family of 4. If I was single and didn't want to eat out or eat take-out every day and I was so busy that shopping was an issue, I would do it.

I think the price is pretty reasonable for what you get, but no way would I do this everyday. And where in the world can you go out to dinner for a hot meal for under 9.99pp? I can barely find lunch for under that. We have 2 kids, and one is little, so when we eat out it tends to be Moe's or Panera Bread or some Mom & Pop pizza place. So it's pretty easy to spend about 9.99 a piece. Especially since we are all water drinkers, and the drinks really up the price of a meal. So, by adding just a bit more for a tip, we could stay pretty close to 10 bucks per person. And I wouldn't have to cook or clean up. If it were just the 2 of us adults, then eating out might run us more because we could go anywhere.

If I was rich I would do it! Anything to get me out f grocery shopping and having to look for new ingredients that I have no clue where they would be at.

Too expensive. And you still have to cook it and clean up afterwards. NO. Besides the recipes are on the site. I didn't find that much that I would want to buy and have them send. Have most of it available right now in the pantry, fridge/freezer. I would pay if it included someone to come and do the work, maybe to come in and prepare two or three meals, so all I had to do was pop it to cook.

No, I can't afford that. If I want to pay $10 per person for every meal, I want it cooked.

Yeah, there's no way I could afford that, that's almost twice what I paid for my weekly grocery shop today (that included breakfast foods, lunches, juice for the kids and some plastic utensils). I like the convenience aspect, but if I still have to cook it and clean up afterwards, not interested.

It would be fun to try. When we go out to eat I always order the same things. With this program I'd be trying different foods. My hubby would love it as he's the real cook in the family.

I can barely find lunch for under that. Off the top of my head, I can think of 6 restaurants here in this town of 25K where I could get a hot meal for less than $10. Three diners, two Mexican restaurants, and one Greek restaurant.

I am a Blue Apron customer and I've been pretty happy with it. I took a break for the summer because there's so much great fresh produce and we also grill out a lot. For us, empty nesters, it was a good deal. We tend to eat out a lot so this was a great alternative.
I loved the creativity of the meals and I feel like it's made me a better all-around cook.

I would so sign up for this. I spend quite a bit of money for my diet-specific food per week, so this would be within a reasonable price range. The recipes look yummy too.

It looks fun. Our friends subscribe and they love it. They post pics on FB of their creations. Nonetheless, I like cooking with my own creativity and convenience, and it would add up cost-wise after a while, so I would be unlikely to subscribe.

I looked into it because for the two of us I tought it would be fun. However, it seems that the smallest plan is 3x per week. Maybe if I could do 1x per week I would go for it.

No, I am way to cheap. Maybe if I didn't have cookbooks and cooking magazines coming out my ears and didn't know where to find new recipes or if I didn't easy access to ingredients, but it is just not cost effective to me.

I posted this on a thread I started about Dream Dinners. Here it is. I love Dream Dinners!!!! It is a chain, it may be called something different in your area. It's where you make up meals from their menu selection. There is a station for each meal, with all the ingredients in containers. They have a recipe card and you add ingredients in separate zip lock baggies, you add as much spice as your taste desires. Then you put all baggies in one large bag and throw in freezer. Each baggie contains 3 meals. You have to order a minimum of 12 dinners or 36 meals. Nothing is precooked, so you still have to cook/bake, but all ingredients are included. I stretch mine out by adding sides or pasta. At first I thought it very pricey, it averages about $180 a month. However for me, it's great! I live alone and would eat tuna everyday. Now I'm eating something different all the time. The food is wonderful, I haven't had one thing I didn't like. So for $180 a month I have a good meal everyday! It averages about $5.00 per meal so it's less than fast food. It's nice for larger families as well. You wouldn't eat a meal everyday, it's just nice to know you have a great meal in the freezer anytime you want it. You can be creative too. If the dinner is hamburgers, they give you a pound of ground beef then in separate baggies, are the spices. To switch it up, I'll make a meatloaf instead and use the buns they include to make meat loaf sandwiches or if it's seasoned chicken breasts, I'll add pasta and make a casserole. Here is the link, most areas have a try it offer, 3 meals which is 9 dinners for $29.95, you'd have to see what they offer at your location. It's nice if you have someone you know that is bedridden or unable to shop, you can stock up their freezer! I sound like a salesman, no monetary interest at all, just like the food! link

I do something similar called Dream Dinners. Only it's local and not a delivery service. My DH and I went from eating out pretty much every night for dinner to only going out 1-2 times a week. I now cook dinner most nights (and weekend breakfasts) and it's SO easy! I'm not a very motivated person, so I tend to "lose steam" in the kitchen if I have to meal plan, then grocery shop, then prepare and cook. It's just too much for me. This has made cooking meals doable for me and I'm so thankful to have found it! My only complaint is that my freezer isn't big enough to hold it all sometimes! Dream Dinners has two meal sizes (3 and 6 servings) and the average price per serving on my typical 36+ serving order is between $5 and $6. We've been using it since September and love it! They have locations all over the US - check it out! (i'm not affiliated, just a very happy customer!)

I'd give it a try, maybe for 1 week out of the month since there's just two of us with kids off in college, not such a big $$ drain. I'll bet anything it's not available here like most anything easy, so I'd say poo on it. I'd try the Dream Dinners too or any other "help you get it done" dinner option.

It's not quite like eating out, which we be more expensive. But it's steep for making it yourself. I bet it's for DINKs (double income, no kids). That. My son got us a few weeks worth as a Christmas gift. The meals were very good and introduced us to a few things I had never tried. It includes everything down to the spices you need, so there is no waste. However there is a huge amount of packaging for every delivery. It did require more prep work (chopping) than I liked. I still make some of the recipes that came with it and if you "like" it on FaceBook or if they have your email address they post recipes. Thanks for the information about the recipes being posted of Facebook! I'll check those out because for the price I am not interested in the service.

I don't look at stuff like this as what you do for regular meals. More for date nights where the two of you open up the box and make the food together. Something a little fancier and out of the ordinary than what you would regularly make. It's less about the food and more about the experience and novelty of it.

No. Seems to expensive and the food looks a bit to "out of the norm" for us.

That seems expensive for a large family living outside of a huge city. When I lived in NYC, didn't have a car, just had my husband, and often worked late, it might have been worth it just to have groceries delivered to my house with the guesswork taken out so that I could make a meal healthier than the takeout I otherwise inevitably would have ordered.

It is expensive and not something I would do because I like to cook and even grocery shop and can prepare good meals for a lot less per serving. However, I can see the appeal for a certain segment of the population. They are busy and have a good income. They don't want to eat out all the time even though they can afford it because they'd prefer more healthfully prepared food. However, planning meals and shopping for them feels like a big time suck, so they do end up eating out a lot. This is a happy medium for that target demographic. It's definitely not for everyone and it's not geared to being a money saver, rather a time saver and a lifestyle choice. I think busypea got it right. There's definitely a target market for this. People will pay for things that make their lives easier or add value. If it weren't for the commitment to 3x per week, I might try it just for the novelty. It would be a fun way to try a new recipe with ingredients that were potentially new to us, too.
