This is the first quilt this quilter ever made! It had 2,000 colors and 10,000 pieces. Her friends asked 'why' when she started. As a result, the quilt was named "Why Not"! It won First Place in the Traditional Pieced category. OMG I want to do this when I grow up

Such beautiful quilts although the "boobs" quilt is a bit hard on the eyes! What a lot of work involved with each quilt. If I had to pick my favourite of the ones you posted so far I would pick the winner, so cosy and homely.

Oh how stunning! Thanks very much for posting. I could most definitely live with the best in show or the blue and white one. Looking forward to more!
Hope you feel better soon.

Wow! What beautiful quilts and what talent these people have. I have always considered myself a medium-beginner level quilter, but looking at these amazing works of art, I'm wondering if there is any level below "complete novice".

I love all the quilts-but that Crazy Quilt makes my heart sing. If I ever get the skill required for quilting, that is the one I want to try. I would love to take a class, but I suspect that I need to learn a lot more before I am even ready to take a class. Thank you for sharing all these photos-I am absolutely astounded at the talent the show represents.

I love the Mr. T quilt! And the peacock. And squirrel. And Fly Me To The Moon.
Quilts are such lovely and amazing things.

GypsyGirl, for the quilt that is entirely small half-square triangles, do you remember approximately how big each HST was? I made a quilt with HST that finished at 1.5 inches (almost 10,000 pieces in the quilt in total) but the quilt in the photo looks like they must be even smaller. I can't imagine seeing such amazing quilts in person. It would almost be sensory overload for me I think. Thanks for sharing.

Don't wait until you are "good enough" to take classes! Do it now before you learn bad habits. The girl I shared a room with took 2 days of embellishment and crazy quilt classes. It didn't look that difficult, especially if you enjoy handwork. The instructor was Judith Baker Montano and they used her book The Crazy Quilt Handbook Maybe you can look for the book to get you started. Oh, you know I love the handwork!! I have been doing a lot of reading about the slow cloth movement (handwork, the journey as much as the destination) and there is something about it that resonates deeply with me. Maybe it is because I am surrounded by so much technology, or the idea that I think we are forgetting how to do things with out the technology, or maybe I am so stressed that the zen-like movements of the rhythm of handwork soothes me-I don't know. Whatever it is, I like it. And the idea of a crazy quilt (using all the scraps of your life because that was all there was-recycling and reusing before it was cool LOL) appeals to me. I wish I had access to classes like what your roommate took. I will look into the book for sure!!

Oh, my gosh! Thanks so much for sharing these! I just decided to get back into quilting after being away from it for more than 20 years. I was following lots of vendors and shop owners on Instagram, but didn't catch anything nearly as complete as you are sharing here!

I have so enjoyed your photos, thank you again. I think my overall favourite must be the cream hand made winner. It reminds me of my grandmother. I love the peacock one too.
