I'm a picky eater and both texture and taste factor into that. When those two elements combine in one food, I really get icked out...number #1 on my list to be avoided at all costs, lima beans!

I'm not really too picky. But yes smell can be sometimes to much. For Dh though he's way more picky. Especially with textures. He won't do seafood. Strawberries or Pickles a few thing he won't touch. Which I love except pickles lol. He's gotten better since we've gotten better since we've gotten married - I can get him to at least try stuff now.

Mostly it's taste, but I admit I cannot eat tofu because of its texture. I also have issues with yogurt, but can get through it if I need to. The trifecta of nastiness for me is coconut. I hate the taste, texture, and smell of it. It is slimy and gross.

Texture is a biggie for me. I hate all canned and most frozen vegetables because of the texture but taste also factors into my pickiness.

I agree. I cannot eat a banana because of the texture. The thought of it even makes me gag

I definitely have texture issues! I no longer dry heave when trying to be polite to someone serving me cooked chunks of fruit like apple pie or blueberry muffins though.
Cooked mushrooms are one that I like the flavor well enough but I can't handle eating them. I've started buying dried mushrooms, and pulverizing them to a powder to add to meals that call for them.

Texture, texture, texture!! I can't handle anything that jiggles in my mouth (jello, slimey yogurt, etc.). Or soggy breads/dumplings. Ick! I'll admit, it's hard to be an adult when you have a strong gag reflex and someone gives you something you just can't swallow.
Tastes I can muscle my way through, but textures will stop me every time.

Water chestnuts. UGH It's all about texture but I don't like the taste either.

Texture is a biggie for me. I hate all canned and most frozen vegetables because of the texture but taste also factors into my pickiness. Me too! I actually don't like any cooked vegetables because of the texture, but I do like most of them raw.

You are not alone. I don't like liver because of the pasty texture or oysters because of the slime factor. I also don't like whipped cream because of the texture. It makes me gag.
I definitely prefer things that are crunchy.
As far as taste, the only thing I really cannot eat is spicy food.

Texture almost never bothers me, it's most always taste. However, I have a high gag reflex and it's more mental than taste or texture. Like the competition last week on Survivor. That would be my Achilles heel because I could absolutely not swallow insects or other gross things no matter what the taste or texture. Sometimes I gag on aspirins.

Texture very rarely bother me with the exception of mushrooms and oysters. 99 times out of 100, if there's something I don't like to eat it because of the taste. I LOVE mushrooms, but I am totally with you on the oysters! My MIL served oysters the other night but I didn't eat any. Someone commented that they were surprised I didn't like them because I love all other salty foods (anchovies, capers, olives) but as I explained, it's more the texture of the oysters that I can't handle. There are only 2 things I won't eat - oysters and offal.

It's more taste with me. I remember my daddy always saying that mushrooms get bigger the more you chew-ha!

I don't like cold, gooey foods. This includes yogurt, pie, and most smoothies (though I've had a couple I've liked over the years.)

I lost my sense of smell back in April (and, as such, most of my sense of taste), so texture is everything to me right now. I know a large part of taste is actually smell-- how did you lose your sense of smell, if you don't mind me asking-- sinus problems? and will it come back?? That's gotta suck! Yes, sinus problems, but it should have come back a long time ago. I'm getting some smells - grapefruit actually smells like grapefruit so I've been practically living on it. Some other smells and tastes are just wrong - perfumes smell like cigarette smoke, mint tastes like molasses.
Obviously, something is off so I've booked an MRI to (hopefully) see what the issue is.

There are foods I don't like because of the texture and there are foods I don't like because of the taste. most of the food my husband hates is because of the texture.

Mushrooms, peppers of any kind and clams. Just about everything else I am ok with.
I totally agree there are foods that just make you feel that I ick!

Texture for me for SURE. I HATE cheese. Loathe it. The texture is so gooey and thick, it's like phlegm. But I like cheese flavored stuff like white cheddar popcorn or Cheez-Its. I hate slimy bits of veggies in stuff like spaghetti sauce, too. Or chunks of tomatoes in the sauce. But I like tomato flavor (like in pizza sauce or garden salsa chips-yum!).
I wish I wasn't so picky...sometimes I feel like I eat like an 8 year old.

Seems many of us have problems with the texture of mushrooms! I do, especially cooked ones. However if they are cut up really small, I'm ok. I hate the texture of rice! Unless it has some sort of sauce over it I can't get it down. I also hate the texture of coconut! I too can usually power through a taste issue, but not a texture one.

I can't stomach the texture of kidney beans, black beans, avocado, cooked mushrooms, Lima beans.
I can barely stomach hummus but since I get to eat pita chips with it, I tolerate it.
