Hello there!
I am curious, for those of you who are working on organizing your craft space, what's your biggest challenge?
And if you're not yet organizing, but have it on your to-do list, what's preventing you from starting?
And finally, if you had a professional organizer at your disposal, how would you have her help you?
Thanks for your feedback, Steph

My biggest challenge is storing leftover kit items. I am madly in love with kits and use most of them up but always have a few leftovers. If I had a professional organizer I would explain what I absolutely use the most of and need at my disposal. The rest……go for it! lol

I have 2 big obstacles:
1. I have a big pile of stuff I don't want anymore and need to take the time to get it sold.
2. There too much furniture in here. I need to figure out how to downsize what I have so I can get rid of the storage pieces and replace the table with one that has its own storage to help with that as well. Tackling the first obstacle would be a great start.
If I had a designer come in, I'd love help with creative and attractive storage.

Time and motivation. I'm always feel motivated when I don't have the time, and I don't have any motivation when I do have some time. When I have a block of time when I could work on it, I would much rather spend that time scrapping because I have a lot of projects I want to work on. The problem with that is if I would spend some of my (limited) time organizing my mess, the time I do spend scrapbooking would be a lot more productive.
I will say things are somewhat better now but I have a lot of tweaking to do. I have a lot of stuff lumped into general categories and those bins of stuff need some fine tuning. At least I kind of know what I have and I kind of know where things are now so I am pointed in the right direction at this point!
I think a professional organizer would probably be able to show me some storage options that might work for my space. I have cabinets and shelving (finally) but haven't really had the time to go through and figure out the best places for things to go so they fit in the space and make the most sense for how I work.
ETA: I also have a big pile of stuff to sell and haven't taken the time to get it all prepped and priced to sell, but I have a few months to go before it needs to be done.

My biggest challenge is sorting embellishments, especially those ephemera packs. I can't see everything, so I forget I have it. Not sure what to do, but it's not like I have a million of each item so I can't put them together. Like I have a few buttons here and there, but not enough to make a whole jar full. Or I have a few packs of enamel dots, but not enough to make a whole container of them.

My biggest challenge is stickers, die cuts, and journaling/PL cards that are really just decorative - basically anything that is flat. I know I work best when my stuff is stored by type but I'm yet to crack the best way to sort these out. At the moment I have them sorted by all PL cards together, all smaller stickers/die cuts that have words or phrases, and all other stickers/die cuts. In theory this works because I'm usually looking for something with words or something without but I'm finding that I have a lot (for me) of those products that I'm just not even looking at which means they never get used.
My other challenge is what to do with all my albums. They don't fit in my office/scrapping space and I just don't know where to put them.
If I had a professional organiser I'd ask them to help me look at my space with fresh eyes so I can see how to fix the above two problems!

1. Sorting out what I can't bear to throw out as opposed to what I'll ever actually use. 2. An affordable, preferably somewhat funky storage system that tucks everything away but still makes things accessible (if that makes any sense). 3. Effective storage for piles and piles of paper. If I had access to a professional organiser...I'd ask for help with the above.

1. ^^Same problem as @pancake: What to do with little things in closed packages. I have some really nice jars and bowls, but I don't have enough stuff to make it look pretty. I hate to buy a bunch of special stuff just to make it look pretty when I know I won't use it. I'm disappointed that the things I display aren't as pretty as I see in pictures.
2. I've been trying to start up again, and I'm a bit overwhelmed.
3. I would ask for for help in organizing my work space to match the way I work and the things I want to do. So more process than storage. I don't have that much stuff, but I need to be able to put my hands on it when I need it.

I don't see my desire to hoard all of my various crafting endeavor items as a problem, I see my lack of space to organize and store it how I'd like as the problem. So basically, my lack of money is the real issue. lol.
But irl, I think I have a few areas that could be improved upon. PL cards. They're in a box with a lid. I don't do lids very well - too much of a hassle to get to. And my stickers, labels, tags, rub-ons, quotes, and other flat items could be tweaked. I don't feel like they're being used appropriately and to their full potential.

I have a hard time with the embellishments as well. I need to see my stuff to remember to use it, but then I end up with cluttered jars and envelopes of stuff everywhere! I recently switched to those plastic divided boxes used for embroidery thread. It seems to be working well for me.
If I had access to a professional organizer I would want help getting functional AND attractive storage. I can usually manage one or the other just fine, but I'm really struggling to make both happen together.

It's so easy for these to get lost in the shuffle because they are so small. I have my embellishments sorted by color for the most part but the little ephemera are so tiny it's easy for them to get overlooked. I was thinking about buying one of those small stacked plastic drawers things and trying to sort them loosely by category - floral, words, shapes, misc.

My biggest challenge is that I still have way too much. Even after a major purge that saw 60% of my 12x12 paper, 80% of my punches, 30% of my inks, 30% of my stamps, 100% of my ribbon and buttons, 60% of my 6x6 pads, 25% of my PL, 70% of my embellishments, etc. go out the door, my stash still exceeds the amount of space I want to dedicate to it. What I kept is pretty nicely organized and I can fairly quickly find what I'm looking for. I will use it, assuming I live long enough! I use 12x12 Iris boxes for most of my paper, punches and embellishments and organize by occasion - Christmas, birthday, kids, valentines day, etc. Stamps and dies are in Avery Elle pockets and stored in Fridge Binz by manufacturer.
I think right now I need help with the heavy lifting - someone to put together my Ikea bookshelves and position them. someone to carry the remainder of the boxes out, etc.
If I had to wait to sell things I would not be as far along as I am now. With a few minor exceptions, everything has been donated and raised money for a good cause.

Placing things so I can see what I have. I finally figured out my paper (standing them upright so I can quickly flip through rather than laying flat) and have found the same for anything that is sticky on the back (think enamel dots, small alpha packs, badges, etc... I stand all of those up for easy flip through. But I still have a problem with embellishments. I have embellishments sorted by color, but they're in containers in my rastog cart and I have to dig through to find something. So instead I just don't end up using them.

My biggest challenge is finding a system that works for me. I have tried several, sorting my brands, types or colors, etc. but have yet to find a good system. It's difficult to find the amount of time to really organize everything. I would just like a professional organizer long enough to give a fresh set of eyes and ideas.

Trying to get the stuff I don't want photographed to sell. I really need to get moving on this because my room is driving me nuts right now! I've got a small pile of thungs to sell but just donated a heap of paper and lower value items because I couldn't face the time/energy involved in selling. I just wanted the stuff gone!

I think my biggest challenge is getting the best furniture/organisation for my space. It would be great to have someone come in and give advice about that.

Yes, that is what I told my daughter on the phone this morning--I may just box up all of the stamps, inks, papers, etc., and take them to Good Will because I don't have the time either. I also just want it cleaned up and gone.

I take the donation route too. By the time I sort, I don't want to make time to deal with the selling. If my hobby was tennis or movie-going, I would have spent as much but wouldn't have the material goods hanging around. If it was tennis, I wouldn't have the extra pounds either, but that's another conversation.
My organizing challenge is two-fold. I want all my art, drafting and craft supplies organized in the same room. And I do not want it to look like a craft store, or even like a craft room.

Oh yes, this is a big one for me too. I pretty much only scrap travel pages but I always forget to include the memorabilia I've so carefully saved and carted half way round the world. My current system is to print out all my photos and put them into page protectors where I think they will get scrapped and put the memorabilia in the page protectors with them but I find flipping through the albums to be a motivation suck when I want to decide what to scrap next.
