I've been using an ATG exclusively for years but lately I've been getting annoyed with the bulkiness of it. In addition, my tape keeps falling off the rollers and I hate having to fix it. Can anyone suggest a good permanent adhesive roller? I would prefer a brand I can pick up at a big box store like M's or J's. I know I don't want anything from AC. I bought some of their redline tape and it hardly sticks.
What do ya'll suggest?

Oh man, I was going to suggest an ATG. Sorry you are having problems. I love mine!

I had the same problem with my ATG until I Googled it. I watched a YouTube video (I have no idea which one as it was at least a year ago) and it showed how to use a cardboard shim over the back roller to keep the tape on. I haven't had a problem with that since.
Every once in a while the tape is doubled over, but I think that was just one particular roll that I'm finished with now.

I'm left handed and the ATG doesn't work for me, no matter what I do. I tried to love it, but I didn't.
I really like the adhesives by Scrapbook Adhesives, 3L. I get them at Hobby Lobby and stock up when there's a sale.

My favorite is SNAIL from Stampin' Up! But I am a demonstrator, so am kind of partial.

I just switched from Tombow mono adhesive to the Glue Glider Pro and am pretty pleased with the new applicator - similar to the ATG I guess but a bit smaller (the bulkiness of the ATG also put me off). I've also been pretty happy with the 3L tape runners in the past.

I'll check out your suggestion. Thanks for all the comments.

I am an avid hermafix user. I get mine from scrapbook pal but you can pick them up from the box stores.

I'm interested in a new roller adhesive also. The CM refills I hoarded are just about gone, and the new ones are ridiculously expensive.
I recently had a chance to try the blue Xyron. It's like a small ATG. There's a Theresa Collins pink version of it. It was easy to manage and the tape goes down in little dots like Hermafix.
I'd be interested in hearing other opinions if anyone else has used it.

Tombow for small jobs or a one-page layout. For crops, I usually take my ATG if I'm doing a lot of matting and I'm working on an event that has lots of photos. I was intimidated with the ATG for the longest time but once I got the hang of it....I loved it! It's nice not to have to worry about running out of adhesives or frequently refilling the roller.

I gave up my ATG gun for the same reasons. I have since switched to the Xyron Mega Runner and love it! More adhesive than the small dot rollers. It isn't as cumbersome as the ATG gun. And just popping in a new cartridge when ready to refill is a dream. I have the blue mega runner that was purchased online. My Michaels & Hobby Lobby only seem to carry the pink Theresa Collins version, which is ok because the pink refills fit my blue runner. You can also choose between 1/4" & 1/2" width of adhesive. Either fit in the same tool. After one weekend crop I decided switching from the ATG was the best decision I made.

I used Tombow for a long time but now prefer Elmer's Craft bond. It holds better and is available at Walmart.
Last year Michaels ran a good deal on their tape runner adhesives for Thanksgiving. I hope they do that again this year. I'm just now running out of all the ones I got last year.
