Just realised that elaine had updated this thread. Glad to hear you are recovering and hope the nausea subsides quickly and you get to enjoy your Mum's cousins cooking.

Glad to hear that it's over and you're recovering. You might want to call your doctor's office and ask them if you can have an anti-emetic to take the night before you're next surgery. They might give you something like Emend(a drug they give chemo patients the night before chemo to prevent nausea). I was given it before my gastric pacemaker was inserted and it worked beautifully. You might want to ask now so that they can check your medical history and see if you're a candidate. You don't have to suffer w/nausea. There are options. Also, if you have pain meds and need them then use them. Stay on top of the pain, rather than suffering needlessly. Rest and I wish you healing and comfort. Surgery on my other eye was yesterday. When anesthesiologist came in in pre-op, we discussed my nausea last week. Given that I am not allowed to bend over, lift anything more than two pounds, and sleep sitting up, the doc was not happy that I was throwing up last week - way too much pressure on the eyes. So, the great news was that they now know I wasn't exaggerating about my reaction to anesthesia and I qualified for Emend. Apparently there is a national shortage of Emend and you have to "qualify" to get it. All I can say is that I will never consent to surgery with anesthesia without Emend again. It is a wonder drug. I would marry it if I could. My face looks awful again, and this eye hurts as much as the other one, but I feel so much better without the nausea, it is unbelievable. It is heartening to know that with the future surgeries, I will never have to feel like last week again. melissa, per your suggestion, last week I had an edible arrangement of fruit sent to the surgical unit for the staff. Yesterday they were telling me how good it was and that it was so much better than chocolate. I was very happy that I was able to give them something they appreciated, given all they did for me.

Whew that it's over. So glad you got the Emend. No one should have to suffer w/nausea on top of post surgical pain. Now just focus on yourself. Rest, rest, rest. Sending surgical success vibes your way.

I felt the same way about Emend! It is an incredible drug!! I had Emend for chemo and nausea was mostly a non-issue. In fact, since Emend was added to chemo regimens, weight gain became an issue with certain chemo drugs instead of weight loss!
Glad they enjoyed the Edible Arrangements!
How much of a break until the next round of surgeries?
