I am in charge of our float at work. The theme is Christmas music so we have to make a float based on our favorite Christmas song. We have chosen to do the Chipmunks Christmas just for the kid friendly fun factor.
Anyone have any ideas on what I could include on the float? Our idea so far is to have 3 children dressed as the chipmunks and we have someone playing the part of dave and they will be singing three of the Chipmunks songs as the floats drives along the parade route.
We have planned a Christmas tree on the float decorated with kids toys, a rocking chair for Dave and an oversized "chair"/couch for the kiddos. I plan on putting presents around the tree and the entire trailer will be covered in Christmas lights. Is there something that I am missing?
I am on my way to work so I will check back later for ideas.
Thanks!

A fireplace with stockings hung and a fake fire with more lights.
A train going around the track, and tree would be fun and add more movement.

That song will require a hula hoop under the tree.

Wasn't the background a recording studio --- or am I just thinking of the cartoon? The 2 1/2 dozen egg flats make an acceptable substitute for a studio wall.

You need a plane that does a "loop de loop" and maybe a large clock to make sure that Christmas won't be late. Maybe some large boxes covered in bright plastic tablecloths with a large bow for the presents? You can wire or hang a lot of cheap plastic hula hoops from the dollar store (if you can still find them) from the front to the back of the float. If you can't find hula hoops, put a strong piece of wire through cheap pool noodles and bend them into a circle.
I am a veteran of many parades with kids singing and I have just one piece of advice: if the kids are singing, you will need a way to amplify their voices. Honestly, people's voices fade after a few times, so I would play the song over a PA and have the kids lip-sync.

A big clock or a calendar with days Xed off because "We can hardly stand the wait, please Christmas, don't be late!"

I have an ancient cassette tape of the chipmunks Christmas songs, so do you mean the classic hoola hoop song? Or just Christmas themed chipmunk songs? Because I think you mentioned playing 3 of them?
It's funny that my tape doesn't even have the hoola hoop song on it.
If you are doing the hoola hoop song maybe you could put a dream cloud above Alvin's head with a picture of a hoola hoop ... with lights circling around it maybe. Does it ever show if he gets the hoola hoop in the video?
Maybe a Christmas list of all the things they want for Christmas.

Don't forget Alvin is the only one with the letter "A" on his shirt, the other 2 have no letters.
