I want to use a distress ink pad and get the same effect that you'd get using the wood-handle applicator tool. But I don't have the tool and don't want to have to wait until I can make it by a craft store to work on the project. Before I waste time and ink experimenting with random items, has anybody had any luck using things like makeup sponges or cotton pads to pat the ink onto the paper?

I think the spongy make up applicator would work. I have also use cut up pieces I of that foam stuff that comes in sheets. Forget what its called!

I've used make up sponges and they work just fine. I've also just used the ink pad itself and went around the edge of the paper/embellishment by hand.
