Ok peas who are a font of wisdom on so many things! I am shopping for a Keurig and am weighing the options. I know there is waste associated with the Keurig and am willing to bear that in mind. I am the only coffee drinker in our household except when we have guests. I am tired of my coffee not tasting as good as when I first open the vacuumed packed package. So I thinking about a 450 because of the programmable features and it comes in Red I think I would be the thermal carafe and a drawer system that goes behind it on the counter. My cupboards are too low to have a drawer under the machine. I would also get the reusable pods for carafes and have one on hand for regular K cups. This is a birthday gift from my Mom who tried to get me one several years ago . . . So what say Refupeas? Help me decide!

I have the B70. When it dies I'll upgrade to the K450. I'd like the option to brew a pot if I have quests. But I love my Keurig, I've had it for several years and no issues. Enjoy! And Happy Birthday.

I have the 450 and love it. I had the B70 before that and used it for several years. DS has it now at college.
I do brew a few pots, but mostly use the single cup brew. I did the "hack" with a very strong magnet to allow me to brew 12 and 14 ounce cups. I have to remove it to brew a pot, but I seldom use the pot brew. Only when I have a large group for brunch.
The 450 will only brew the KCups that have the certified Kcups. Any off-brands that don't have the special printing around the edge wont brew... but I don't have any trouble with the kinds I like. There are ways around it if you need to brew an off branded one. It has a larger water reservoir, which is nice. I filter my water in a Brita before adding it to the machine.
The 450 doesn't brew as hot as the B70 did - but it is hot enough for me.
I have tried the reusable pods. I do not care for that at all.

Our Keurig recently broke (one of the original models) and we replaced it with the K450. We've been very happy with it. I also don't think the coffee tastes nearly as well with the reusable pods. We have had one time where the K450 didn't recognize a Starbucks K-cup. It kept displaying a message that it wasn't an official K-cup, but it was. We cleaned the pod area and then it worked fine. When I bought the K450 it was on sale at Kohl's and I had a 30% off coupon so you might be able to get a pretty great deal. Costco usually has a great price on them if you want all the samples of coffee. I think you get 50 K-cups - we just have found our preferred coffee and wouldn't use all the coffee it came with. Remember, when you buy a new one, register it at keurig.com. You will get an e-mail voucher with a code for 2 free boxes of K-cups when you buy 2.

My SIL mentioned the issue with the 2.0 as a heads up and showed DH how they made a workaround. We haven't had any trouble with finding cups though. As a matter of fact DS and I tried to find a pack that wouldn't work just for fun last time we were at Kroger and couldn't find any that didn't have the 'works in any Keurig...' message.

Most of the KCups now do work in it. It was just at the beginning, when it was first released. If you had some older KCups, even Keurig brand, they wouldn't work in it. Here is the magnet trick to open up the full menu on the new machines. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ltx1mMoneE

I still have my original Keurig that only brews one cup. I find it works fine when we have guests, because everyone likes something different...my mom only drinks decaff, my MIL likes tea, the teens like Mochas...you get the idea. I love having every cup fresh. Like you, I am the only coffee drinker in our home. I also have a red mini on my desk at work

I have a first-gen Keurig, no fancy screen, that I use when DH takes the last cup of coffee in the morning. No matter what, it never tastes as good as freshly ground beans.

We have thought about getting one. We were at a friend's cabin this weekend and were able to use theirs. My husband was disappointed because he said it didn't get the coffee very hot. Is there a way to adjust that?

If anyone knows of an alternative to Keurig I would be interested in hearing it. I would like to replace ours as it is noisy and slow, but no Keurig made now does what it does. I can have a 14 oz travel mug made with a regular pod. The only one that offers that you still have to use the bigger pod to make it work. So frustrating! I like my coffee weak which is the reason I like the 14oz size in the first place. Keurig seems to be the new Itunes with their control issues.

Bite the bullet and ordered the whole kit and kaboddle! Mom wanted me to get all the accessories. So that included a thermal carafe (for when they visit!), a storage drawer, reusable carafe pod & k cup pod, a cheater clip, and a variety pack of coffees. Like I said in my original post, she asked me about one 2 or 3 years ago. She is delighted she can get me something I will use and enjoy every day. There were K cups on sale in my favorite brand at Safeway today, so I've already stocked up on those. I do want to try a variety of coffees and also brew some loose teas quickly. Looking forward to some yummy brews! A plus will be the gift opportunities to try other variety packs.
Thanks for the link to the 2.0 hacks iowgirl!

After my 3rd Keurig broke last January I decided to go with a different brand. We went to bed bath and beyond and they were demoing an icoffee so we bought it. I love it! There are a couple more reasons I switched from Keurig... I like to brew at 12 ounces and the newer Keurigs no longer have that option. I don't want a carafe. The whole purpose of a Keurig for me is to make one cup at a time. Everyone I know likes a different flavor, brand or strength of coffee so I would never use the carafe. The icoffee was cheaper and I (knock on wood) have not had a problem yet!

The hack that iowgirl linked allows the 2.0 to brew 12 ounces . . . so if it doesn't work out you know.

I brew 12-oz in my 2.0 without a hack. I brew 8-oz., open the cup compartment without taking out the k-cup, close it and select 4-oz.

Coffee smelled really good and tasted nice too. I am trying out the variety pack. It seems to brew it plenty hot for me! The only down side? My really nice travel coffee mug that keep coffee warm for hours is too tall. Easy enough fix, brew into a 2 cup measuring cup and pour into the mug. The measuring cup will go in the cabinet where the filter used to reside. It really is much quicker! I think I am going to love my Keurig By the way, it is the red one! I've also noticed the the k-cups seem to be on sale everywhere. So no shortage of choices locally.

QVC had the 450 as the TSV yesterday. It comes with tons of pods and was only $129 and comes in a variety of colors. I don't know whether it is still on special. I ordered it in Aqua right before my surgery yesterday as a treat to look forward to.

I ended up buying the Breville machine. I love it. My mom has small Keurig and mine gets the coffee so much hotter than hers does. And mine has an adjustment option so I could brew mine even hotter. We ran the machines side by side and her coffee was done much faster. It also tasted weaker than the same brand of pod out of my machine. I think the coffee in mine is stronger because the hot water doesn't go through as quickly as hers did. Longer contact with the grounds makes a more full flavored cup. To me, her Keurig just made flavored water. I can highly recommend the Breville machine.
