Fly to a city and back in the same day?

How long is the flight? I've done Chicago to NY and back. It was no big deal.

Plenty of business people do it on a regular basis. The only thing I can think of is if you take a daily medication take a dose or two in your purse just in case you end up delayed for some reason.

All the time. Make sure you give yourself enough time for security depending on the airport. The best thing is - no luggage!

I used to do it regularly for business meetings, some of the flights joke they're the corporate buses.

I've only done it a couple of times for social reasons, but it was worth it!

Done it for work a couple of times. Try to fly out on the first flight of the day (going to your destination), they are the least likely to be delayed. I find it a little exhausting, so consider that when making plans for the next day. Also, have a plan in mind in case you get stuck overnight.

It depends on how far/close the city is. Austin to Houston or Dallas is fine. No luggage to deal with when you get home makes it great. Anything past those points means a loooooooong workday (15+ hours) and that bites.

Years ago, casinos on the Gulf Coast had CHEAP ($79/$99) round trip tickets from Milwaukee (or Chicago?) that left early am and returned late that same night. It was to promote gambling but you didn't have to gamble. So a few times we flew down, had a car rental waiting and spent the day doing whatever we wanted, and maybe gambling. Spent a nice warm day wandering around New Orleans when it was cold as heck here.

Yeah, it really sucks doesn't it?   Not only that, but you can fly to many different countries for a day trip!  

It just depends on where you're flying to/from. I'm in the Portland area and flying to and from in a day Seattle is OK (though honestly, once you factor in security, it's kind of a crapshoot if flying is any faster than driving). San Francisco is also OK, but makes for a long day. I did it to LA once - never again. That was a LOOOONG day. Staying one night would have made the whole thing much more pleasant.

I've done Atlanta to Washington DC as a day trip many times, and once did Atlanta to Vegas and back (to pick up one of my kids, never even left the airport).

Carry a toothbrush and a clean pair of underwear, plus whatever medication you take daily. A travel-pak of wet wipes is a good idea, too. And snacks like granola bars. And your phone charger!

It's great to just get on the plane with a purse, not worrying about luggage. But I usually make it a big purse, or a backpack.

Sure have. Surprise parties, funerals, etc. I think it is stressful because of the whole airport security lines and cramming into an airplane twice in one day, but we do it for family only. If you have little ones and need to rent a car don't forget a car seat.

I do it for work all the time. It's not exactly the same since my boss owns his own plane. I drive my car right into the private hangar and jump onto the plane. No security, no waiting, no lines, and we leave 2 minutes after I jump on board. I really really like flying on private planes!!!! It has spoiled me forever. I am actually flying Monday. It would be a 6 hour car drive so we are taking the plane. We will leave at 9am and be home by 5.

A friend flies to Vegas this way. He flies out on the earliest flight and then home on a super late flight so he doesn't have to stay in a hotel. He would be gone for like 20 hours.
