I hurt my hip during cross fit and my clinical trial nurse is irritated. So. I thought- water aerobics? Do you like it? Would you recommend it? Sigh. Alright, if "Yes." Then, well, my choices are limited. I'm finding it kind of difficult to find a place (yeah, even though I live in Miami, I suppose businesses assume that EVERYONE has their own pool.) In any event, I have narrowed it down to 2 places: LA FITNESS- (insert eye roll) which seems a little sketchy. I've read very few good reviews. or A Jewish community center, which, from what I've read, is top notch. The JCC is kind of out of my way, but the class schedule works for me (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays) I've checked their webpage and I don't know who keeps this place clean, but it looks immaculate. The price isn't bad. But like I said, it's a good, solid 1/2 hour from me. Your thoughts?

Yes. I think they are good and work. Even just walking back and forth in a pool up to your chest is a very good workout. You wouldn't think so, but it is.

I used to go for years before I had kids. It was a great exercise where you burned a ton of calories but never got overheated. I went up until I was about eight months pregnant.

I love, love, love water aerobics! A pleasantly mild tiredness afterwards, but at the same time feeling more energetic for the remainder of the day. I usually go 2x a week with 2 different instructors. One is tougher than the other, but a good workout, no matter what. I've been doing this for about 10 years. I used to be the baby of the class, but not so much anymore.

Does either one of them offer a deep water class? Those are done with flotation devices and I find that I like that much more than the other type (although as far as exercise goes, it's probably my favorite type of exercise). We have several choices of classes in my neighborhood, including a Zumba water class but deep water is still my favorite.

I've done deep water off & on for decades. Recently with my daughters ankle injury she started coming too. I highly recommend it for joint issues.
Pick where you will actually go. If you don't go because of inconvenience it doesn't do any good just a $$$ suck.

Neither offer deep water classes. As to why not just swimming-because I am not a strong swimmer and I don't know how to swim as "exercise." I'm leaning slightly more toward the JCC because of the online reviews of it as compared to the LA fitness facilities with pools. The JCC has a heated pool, whereas the LA fitness reviews indicate that this has been a consistent problem. They also mention that the instructors flake out at the last minute, whereas the JCC seems more consistent quality wise. I also saw pictures of the JCC and honestly, the place looks immaculate. Even the green spaces look pristine. The problem I have with it is the distance, but then again I would be going against traffic. I live in WEST WEST kendall--almost near the everglades and getting anywhere is a PITA.

Do gyms in the US offer free trials? Here most gyms will let you try free for a week. Or take a fee that is refunded when you take out a membership.
If they do, went not try both. Water aerobics is great exercise and gentle on the joints.

I love water aerobics. It is much more of a workout than people think. And yeah, I have been the youngest in the class most of the time, but who cares! In our area, the classes combine both shallow & deep water exercise. You start shallow, then do deep, then end with shallow. I've just been cleared to start exercising after over a year and a half of recovering from Achilles Tendon surgeries. There's a new gym offering classes now, so I've got to check their schedule and see which one works for me. Both are on my way to/from work, and less than 4 miles from my house, so no excuses.

Try to see if one of them offers Aqua Zumba. The latin dance moves are done in the water. The class feels like one giant dance party, but then when you get out of the water, you can really feel the workout. Great for injuries!
