I was wondering if anyone here is affected by the temperature drops with this weather? The last two years I have suffered immensely from what I believe are tension headaches caused by the cold weather (I feel it start as tightness in my neck.) They start about now, and go away in April/May. They occur about 4-5 times a week, though even "good" days I can still feel a tightness in my neck. I sleep with a hat on to try and keep warm, it seems to help a little bit.
As a result I have been hyper aware this year as the weather changes, and have noticed muscle tightness in my shoulder, back and hip area for the past week. I am wondering if this is normal? Maybe this is related to the headaches and there is something going on. I have no idea.
I tried talking to my doctor about it last year, she just wanted me to take muscle relaxers. Sorry but I refuse to live on muscle relaxers for six months a year for headaches. I readily admit, I have been meaning to find a new doctor ever since and haven't gotten around to it.
Am I loony?

It's joints, not muscles, for me. The little finger on my left hand has been especially painful since the weather got cooler.

Yes! If I get to chilled my upper back/shoulder/neck muscles cramp up terribly! I have to make a concerted effort to keep those areas warm!

I don't think you're loony. I don't really ache when it's cold but I am stiffer in my legs.

If you are loony I'm there with you. The cold certainly seems to make my muscles tense up, and my joints hurt along with an odd pattern of hives across my abodmen (fun times!) what I am finding this winter is it may all be related to wheat. As the temps drop I eat more carbs, particularly wheat based ones like pasta and toasted bread. If I follow a strict gluten free diet for a couple of weeks the aching eases up noticeably as do the hives. But, I LOVE a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of soup in the winter ::angry foot stomp::: So, for me at least, it isn't the actual cold but the subtle life style changes I make when it gets cold. ::: sigh::: I really really want grilled cheese on texas toast.. like really really have to have it! I do give in and take a muscle relaxer sometimes at night so I can get a good night's sleep.

This cooler weather that I usually love and look forward to every year is KILLING me. I am usually the hottest person in the house and when everyone else is wearing long sleeves and pants and are sitting under a blanket in front of a fire place and saying that they are still cold and I am sitting there in shorts and a tank top and I am hot.
I have been on blood thinners for 2 months now. It has been cold for just over a week and I have been freezing frigging COLD every day. I actually pulled out my winter comforter the other night. I usually don't do that until the first part of December.
the hot tub helps though. warms me clear to the core and then I go to bed and cuddle up under my comforter.

I sure do feel it in my joints and muscles, in particular, neck and knees. My dh gets painful neuropathy in his feet and hands when the weather gets cold. Since he is diabetic, we keep the heat set up inside the house. It's a few more dollars in heating costs but it's still less than the cost of additional prescriptions and doctor visits, to say nothing about keeping him reasonably pain free.
