My co worker just gifted my with my all time favorite book growing up, Dignity, A Springer Spaniel. I have fond memories of checking that book out so many times in 5th grade, the librarian told me I should have my parents buy it. Well over a year ago we were commenting on favorite books, music, movies, etc from growing up. He and I are the same age. He frequents thrift stores and places like that and always seems to find neat things. Today he came in and gifted me with a BEAUTIFUL edition of the book. I have seen a couple on ebay and the like and they easily run over $50 (the book was published in the 30's). He won't tell me where he got it, so I hope he didn't pay a lot of money for it. I literally full on cried when he gave it to me. He had wanted to give it to my husband to give it to me but missed seeing my husband this morning when he brought me breakfast so he gave it to me. He wrote a little note inside the book saying "I'm so glad I could reconnect you with your old friend Dignity". Seriously, how great is that??? I cannot wait to curl up somewhere private and just revel in old memories and a wonderful book.

I'll bet your co-worker was so excited to give you that book. I'm sure it made his day to see your reaction.

That's so sweet. As an aside- anyone else having a small inside laugh about a coworker giving you the gift of Dignity, after ashley 's thread last week?

It's so awesome when someone "gets it" about things we value. What a thoughtful person your coworker is!

What a nice thing for someone to do. It's so nice to feel like someone has been listening and understands you. As an aside- anyone else having a small inside laugh about a coworker giving you the gift of Dignity, after Ashley 's thread last week? Was that my thread about overhearing co-worker/client conversations?

I would have been in pieces. This gift says as much about you as it says about him. Very sweet.

Was that my thread about overhearing co-worker/client conversations? Maybe it wasn't you? It was about rude treatment or conditions to keep a job. But I admit I only followed beginning, unplugged not long after...someone posted hypothetically about Hooters uniform... But I hate to hijack this sweet thread. Sorry !

What an amazing difference it makes.

That is such a wonderful thing! I lived through books growing up. My childhood sucked for the most part and I escaped through books. I have very little in the way of good memories from then or anything tangible. One thing I do have is the book "Black Gold" by Marguerite Henry. I won it as the top prize in reading/book report contest when I was in 5th grade. Sometimes I just like to grab it off the book shelf and flip through the pages.
Enjoy your new found treasure!
