My small dog (part long hair chihuahua and part Corgi) loves to hunt bugs. Loves. To. Hunt. Bugs.
It is usually no big deal because he brings in small black bugs that are dead and he carries them around the living room and then rolls over on them.
But tonight was different...I look over at him and he is playing with something that is not black. I walk over to him and he picks up the thing and runs underneath the kitchen table with it. Then when he has decided that I am not chasing him any more, he goes back in the living room. I casually walk by and then swoop down to catch him and what ever he is playing with.
Imagine my surprise when it is a tiny gecko...actually only part of him was left. Ewww! I grabbed Joey and then grabbed tissue to pick up the gecko...and the gecko was gone. Crap! There is a half dead partially intact gecko crawling around my living room!!!
My husband walked in the back door and helped me keep Joey controlled while we found the gecko and got rid of him.
Ewww...just ewww.
Please tell me that I am not the only one who has a dog that hunts bugs. It is actually quite entertaining to watch him chase a fly. That is always worth a few laughs!

It could be worse....we have a hawk that loves to eat squirrels in one of the trees in our back yard. It often drops its meal and my dog finds it and brings it into the house. I have found eight dead squirrels in my living room in various stages of eaten-ness.

Sometimes we find our pup frozen in the backyard, staring at the electrical box on the wall and know she has a gecko "trapped" behind it. I hate the thought she might actually catch one.

We have an Akita mix that was quite the hunter in her younger years. Bugs, lizards, squirrels, birds... If she could catch it, she did. On DS 6th birthday, he had a 6 friends sleep over. Apparently, with everything going on, we forgot to lock the doggie door. At some point in the early morning, my hunter went out and caught a huge pigeon. She brought it in, and laid it out on the floor, for all the boys to admire when they woke up. They woke up less than impressed. DS screamed for DH to get the bird. I don't know if that damn bird was in shock, unconscious, or playing possum, but the second DH glove touched it, it started flailing around. I've never heard such screaming from boys, and profanities in front of children, from my DH.
