would you go to so that you could see it first-hand? Like, go park somewhere with a view? It's a 9-story dorm on KU campus.
I'd kind of like to feel the rumble. I wonder how close I'd have to be... I'm single, and any vibration is a thrill.

9 stories in KS is like 63 years on NYC (like dog years). I'd make an effort to see either one short of breaking the law. Sit on a solid surface (let that joke write itself over and over).

I am bummed that they are doing it on a Monday, so I can't drive down and watch. Because I'd totally come by and watch that building implode. And toast it with a 9 a.m. margarita. Maybe I'll be "sick" that day....

We went to view the demolition of giant cooling towers - it was spectacular in a weird way

An office building kitty corner to mine was imploded early on a Sunday morning. About half our office came in to watch. The crowds were insane and people were trying to get into the building that didn't work there. It was cool & worth the early morning wake-up. We could definitely feel the rumble. When the Kingdome was imploded in 2000, I had a couple of toddlers and was happy to watch on TV.
I'm surprised they are doing this on a weekday.

My boys (8 & 5.5) would LOVE this! We'd find a way to go.

What the...?!?!? lol MorningPerson read it correctly - sorry to confuse you We were watching from our office on the 20th or so floor of our building and had a great view, far above the street level mob. The other two corners had hotels and all the rooms facing the implosion were booked. It is amazing to me that we were allowed to be so close to the detonation. Because of all the buildings there weren't many good street level viewing points.

I'm single, and any vibration is a thrill. You crack me up Sharla! I went to see the demolition of half a dozen tower blocks (31 storeys tall) just a few weeks ago. A couple of them didn't fully collapse, but it was quite a spectacular sight. And yes, there was some vibration...

My dad installed insulation in a lot of these types of old buildings, he insisted that I NOT GO to a building imploding in our town. The dust and debris will contain so much hazardous material like asbestos fibers from old tiles and such, it is not worth the risk. Watch it on t.v. and keep your distance.

I would not be interested in this at all, but I can tell you that my DH would go to a significant amount of effort to see/feel something like this. He would be all over it!

There are several of those similar style dorms clumped together. I don't know how McCollum was deemed the subject of implosion, because they all look about the same age.

It was always the cruddiest dorm when I lived in Ellsworth and probably one of the oldest.
