I'm not a well-known pea but I'm desperate for help! I'm going "all-out" for Christmas this year at the request of my senior in high school son. The girls have advent calendars (a beauty one for the sophomore, a lego one for the 4th grader) but I'd love to have one for my son, too. I've googled, checked amazon, etc. He's a nerd/geek, wants to major in film, so there seems to be plenty of stuff to work with but I've not been able to find something appropriate for him. He's got a great sense of humor so if anyone has any ideas, I would be FOREVER GRATEFUL...

Wow, never realized how female oriented they were. Men are limited to tequila, draft beer and whiskey it seems.

We loved the Lego ones when DS was younger, but he is also a senior in hs, and probably wouldn't want one of those either! At that age, you are probably stuck making your own, which could get quite expensive, depending on what you put in it. I'd probably just do candy and chips and other snacks just to keep it less costly.

Lindor Chocolate and/or Starbucks advent calendar that Costco is selling. Is the Starbucks one different from the one Starbucks itself is selling? Not sure as I don't go to Starbucks. It is a large red box with different things in it - some hot chocolate mixes, cookies, whatever it says on the back of the box.

That one sounds better .The one at Sbux is a christmas tree shaped box with round ornaments (I don't like it this year) with salted caramels (I think). And a $5 GC. I will have to see if I can convince someone with a Costco membership to take me over there. Thanks!

The Starbucks advent calendar is close to $50 and comes with a $5 gift card and various candy treats - chocolates, peppermint bark etc. Looks like the 24 ornaments could be reused next year or hung on the tree this year.

It is a little silly, but how about an Angry Birds advent calendar: Amazon link

I made two last year for my nephews. I went to the liquor dept and got a box from them. A empty case that has 24 slots for bottles. I put a beer (you can do soda) in each one. I put an individual snack in every third one too. Put a number on the top of each one and that was my man/boy advent calendar

What about the LEGO star wars one? Just what I was about to suggest! I got DS17 one last year, and he was delighted. He still wants Lego for his birthday every year, and this year is no exception.

Could you make your own with a selection of retro sweets or European chocolate treats?
Anything I saw was on Amazon UK which is not a great help but I did see a screwdriver set that built up over Advent. Perhaps Amazon USA might have something similiar.

My husband and I are getting the Star Wars LEGO and the City LEGO calendars. You could have two LEGO calendars going without doubling up.

I had the one from last year and was really disappointed. I won't ever buy again.
OP, I have no ideas other than buying an empty advent calendar and filling it with your own little treasures for him.

There are some cool crafty ideas on pinterest to create your own calendar and fill it with whatever.
I also have a calendar that was filled with chocolate but is little drawers that can be refilled with anything.
I'm thinking about doing an activities advent calendar this year instead of the Legos. hot cocoa by the fire watching a christmas movie going to see the lights trip to the toy store to buy a Toys for Tots toy

I bought myself the Minions Megabloks one from Target. I was going to get DD the Lego Friends one (still might), and saw the Minion one on sale so I snapped it up for myself instead because I always get chumped at Christmas. Other than that, I have a reusable wooden one that I bought years ago on clearance after Christmas that I use for DD. The compartments are pretty small, so I'm limited as to what can go in the doors. Usually she gets a few chocolates, candies or other little things. Which reminds me, I need to start scouring the Target One Spot now to start collecting stuff to put in it. I think for a HS senior boy, you're probably going to have to do something on your own. Like others mentioned, there are loads of DIY ideas on Pinterest for them. I'm a HUGE lover of Advent calendars (and have several that I reuse every year) and I haven't seen really anything that specifically speaks to that age group.

Are you talking about the magnetic chalkboard one with the little tins? I bought that one and the thing itself is okay but the contents that came in it (tiny sawdust flavored graham crackers covered in icky "chocolate" coating and sprinkled with coarse salt) were AWFUL. I was mostly getting it for the containers that can be reused.

For his first Christmas, our grandson received the most gorgeous log cabin (with his name on the little mailbox...so cute!!) from a family member. It was from LL Bean and I have to say, I know it was expensive, but 14 years later it is still looking like brand new. The treats go inside numbered windows and doors...I usually can fit up to 3 small pieces of chocolate in each one. Even now that he's a teen, every December 1st he's downstairs looking for his cabin .

If he's anything like my teenage son he would love a snack calendar. I made a beer advent calendar for a friend I got red plastic tote and wrapped a different beer for each day with green tissue paper and put number decals on the tops of the bottles. You could get use a shoe organizer and wrap a different snack for each day.

Last year I just got my and my daughter each a bag of the Lindor chocolates and they got a piece of candy each day. Didn't love it but it was something. I am wondering about the beauty advent calendar? Where did you get it and what is in it? I wonder if it is something my daughter would like although she is much younger than your daughter. She is 12 years old.

I have a hanging advent calendar that has little mittens with numbers from 1-24. I buy items for my daughter & husband to pull out of it each day - lipgloss, candy, giftcard, mini nail polish, etc. They really love it!

My daughter is 16 and because we're switching to the "want/need/play/read" gift system this year, I indulged and got her this one. I'm hoping she likes it because it was ridiculously expensive and the shipping/duty charges added another $40 to it. I know, it's my own dang fault. Most of the really "cool" beauty advent calendars are from the UK, unfortunately, although I know The Body Shop has one (we're an asthma family, though, and all those scented lotions wouldn't work for us) and I've seen a few cute nail polish ones, too.

Ugh. My son is 15yo and I am really struggling this year. I always make my own stuff. I have the very old Starbucks calendars that had little drawers in them (they were shaped like a tree) and I covered it up with cute paper. In each cubby, I write a note about where to find their treat. The girls are so easy! My son not so much. I'm going to head to the Dollar Tree to find some little things, but the advent calendar is not a small gift. I usually spend about $50 on it altogether per child. I love the idea of a snack!! Sometimes I write that I'll make him a milkshake or do a chore for him. That's a good day!
