Yes, in marching band, Got the letter freshman year and then stripes for the other three years. Yes, I still have it, but I never got a letterman jacket, so I only have the letter.

Yes, I earned my numerals - class grad year "84" and varsity letter "S" - and stripes for marching band and wrestling (I was the wrestling manager for four years.) Then we would sew all our competition medals on the letter - loved that 'jingle!'

I'm another that lettered (soccer) and never bought the jacket. I didn't letter until senior year, so a jacket was pointless then.

We don't have that here on the Canadian Prairies. I kinda wish we did.

Yep - Number Sense....(curious if anyone else even knows what that is!!) I don't know what that is, so off to Google I went. Still didn't really figure it out unless it is a math club. I always thought varsity letters were only for sports, but I see above someone got one in yearbook, so I guess not. As for the original question, nope. I never did anything that you could earn one in. I do believe that at my school it was only for sports or band or cheerleading. I do, however, have my father's. Both from his high school and college. They are for football and tennis. Funny combo, hey?

Yes. And my school gave a new letter every year instead of bars. I have a box full and that doesn't include the ones that actually made it onto my jacket which seems to have gone missing when it was in my mother's care. I think mine were for Band, Speech, Drama, Tennis, and Academic Team.

Dh and my high schools only gave them for athletics. Neither of us earned one. Ds' school gives them for athletics and academics- have to have a 3.5 gpa to earn one. Ds currently has 3 of each, and will earn fourth ones in each this year.

Yes - for honor roll. They were the same as the letter jackets for sports, but were called honor jackets. You got a bar for every semester you were on the honor roll.

I had several for drama and maybe yearbook? (It's been a while!)
My kids can earn them for sports or GPA. No letter for drama here.

Neither of the schools I went to for high school were into letterman jackets or letters.
The last school did sell the jackets and letters, but they were very expensive and not popular. Only a couple of people had them.
I don't know if I lettered or not. Women's sports weren't nearly as important. I did get involved in forensics, sports and played the violin until I had to stop because of a shoulder injury that I aggravated playing goalie in soccer.
Class rings were the big thing at our school. Couples exchanged them.

I earned one in academics. The school gave me the letter and the jacket for free. But I never wore it.
I also lettered in dance. Now that jacket was gorgeous. It was wool like a pea coat and had a very cute cut and a sailor flap on the back. And you got it embroidered with your name and rank in this gorgeous font. If you earned one of those you wore it as often as you could. I still have it. It was truly beautiful.

Yep - Number Sense....(curious if anyone else even knows what that is!!) In Texas Number Sense is a UIL scholastic competition that is all mental math. I used to coach my elementary school's team before we stopped doing UIL competitions.

In my high school we only got letters for athletics. I lettered three years in volleyball and basketball and four years in track. I got a letter sweater that I hardly ever wore. In college I lettered four years in both indoor and outdoor track. This was at the Naval Academy, and they gave us a letter sweater with your first earned letter. If your team beat Army that season, you got a star to sew on. On Fridays we could wear our letter sweaters to class over our uniforms, and that was cool because you didn't have to wear your cover (aka your hat).

Yes--cheerleading and Tennis. We also did small letters for JV (goes on the coat pocket), and I got bars for basketball and volleyball. We did medals for academic awards and I had a bajillion of those. My mom got me the girl version of the letter jacket, which I was not such a big fan of. It had a sort of massive hood on it that zipped together on the back. Still have the jacket now hanging up in my closet 20 years later. Maybe I'll wear it for Halloween some year.

Yes, the letter and three bars for gymnastics, plus some for drama and academics. I got the girl's letter jacket and I wore it all the time but I was tiny then and it would never fit me now. I kept it for DD if she ever wants it someday for the retro nostalgia factor even though she will go to a different school.

Only competitive teams/people could earn letters. I got one for speech. Don't remember if I got a sweater. No jacket for sure.

No letters for me . . . would have had one for academics and drill team, but only Varsity sports received letters in my day in Alaska. DS lettered in wrestling as a freshman, and now in soccer as a sophomore. We waited too long for DSD to get around to ordering her jacket so she didn't wear it much as a Senior. She had varsity letters in tennis and XCountry skiing, plus and academic letter. That was sewn on the back. We just ordered DS's and it should be here any day. Spendy thing! I didn't go full out with everything, but did add a soccer ball and his weight, they go on opposite sleeves. It is made locally, right here in Oregon so that makes me happy! The rep did a good job sizing him and considered that he was only 16, we ordered a size 44! He will be wearing it the next three years. Lots of kids wear theirs here, so it was a good investment.

Earned it as a sophomore in yearbook. My mom saved up to buy the jacket for me. It was a big deal. I wore it until graduation.

Ok here is an oldie for you. I got mine for GAA - girls athletic association. & I wore it proudly on a sweater with stripes on the sleeve. Later I took the letter off to save it & wore the sweater for years as my housecleaning sweater.

So interesting to see the different areas to earn a letter and how some schools only offered for sports and others for academics as well.
