I don't care for the name and I don't follow the Duggars, but that little baby is precious.

So his name is Spurgeon but they're going to call him Quincy? Where the hell does one get Quincy from his name? And I didn't even think of fish. I thought of spooge. Goes to show you where my brain is these days.

Ugh, horrible name IMO. No wonder they want to call him something else.

If they were going to call him Quincy, they should have named him Quincy. If they wanted to honor that person and still wanted a usable name, they should have named him Charles. Sounds like another ploy to make sure they are being talked about.

I know a Spurgeon and it really is a super strange name - just not very pretty sounding to me.
But I don't know that I hate it any more than some other super strange names. I could name ten that are worse.

Sounds like another ploy to make sure they are being talked about. Ding ding ding! I'll take "Fame Whores" for $500, Alex.

My husband's great uncle is named Spurgeon. It was popular in their area in NC.

Spurgeon is a terrible name. I think of sperm and fish every time I read it.
I loooove Elliot! It's adorable. I have a cousin who named her new son Elliot a few months ago. I think it's great.
Any chance they will call him a nickname or by his middle name?

I really like the name Quincy.
And yes, Charles instead of Spurgeon is much better.

Poor little Spurgy. Check out the Urban Dictionary definition for a good laugh. Oh my! It appears they really should have Googled that first...

Makes me think of the movie "Deep Impact". Robert Duvall's characters name was Spurgeon. They called him "Fish".

I haven't watched there video yet, but QUINCY?? Why not just name him that? Off the Duggar topic: My FIL was the 3rd or 4th oldest son in his family to be named with the initials QEG. My husband is a junior, and actually went by a nickname of his middle name (the E name) until he went away to college and could choose what he wanted to be called. He now goes by his first name (the Q name). I know that FIL absolutely wanted us to name our oldest son with the QEG name but just think for a second about how many decent Q names there are for men. Quigley? Quincy? My FIL/husband have the only Q name I would even consider, and I did not want my son to be named the same thing as his father. We broke with tradition and I had no problem with it because my kid=my choice in names, but I think FIL was really disappointed.

I appreciate the sentiment (naming the baby for an admired person) but don't care for Spurgeon. It just doesn't have a nice sound to it. I do love Elliot, however. We have two puppies in 4-H this year named Elliot, I love that name But I also love the movie ET.

DS went to a small school and had a classmate Quince and a Quinn. Out of 50-some boys, I thought that was not likely.

Without reading any other responses, my first reaction is the name sounds like an Urban Dictionary word that a guy would use to describe an orgasm. (sorry)

I pretty much hate the name Spurgeon (and I like old unusual names), but they didn't ask my opinion and I am sure they don't care. I don't understand calling him Quincy and if so why didn't they put that in his name somewhere? He is adorable.

Poor little Spurgy. Check out the Urban Dictionary definition for a good laugh. That is what I thought of. I knew a guy in college that had the nickname "spooge" for a while...it wasn't a good nickname! Poor kid! "Spooge" is exactly the unfortunate nickname that came into my mind when I read the name. Poor little boy. That is one of those words that has always caused my gag reflex to almost trigger. I knew someone that discovered my strong dislike of it, so of course, he used it as often as he could. I could not go out to lunch with him unless he swore not to utter it. But then he didn't have to. He could make my own mind go there when he would do something childish like squeeze his hamburger to make the mayo drip out. He wouldn't say anything, he would just look at me and smile.

Sturgeon Seaweed is how I read it. The kid is ripe for teasing given his very public family. Why intentionally add to it?

People can name their babies whatever they want. I'm personally not a fan of this particular name. I keep thinking it sounds like a misspelling/mispronounciation of 'sturgeon', as in fish. The sentiment is lovely, and Elliot is one of my most favorite names. However, I, too, keep thinking "sturgeon."
