I appreciate the sentiment (naming the baby for an admired person) but don't care for Spurgeon. It just doesn't have a nice sound to it. I do love Elliot, however.

People can name their babies whatever they want. I'm personally not a fan of this particular name. I keep thinking it sounds like a misspelling/mispronounciation of 'sturgeon', as in fish.

Spurgeon is terrible.
Why not "Charles" if they wanted to name the baby after that guy?

Awful. To each their own, I guess. I think of fish eggs every time I hear it.

The sentiment is lovely, and Elliot is one of my most favorite names. However, I, too, keep thinking "sturgeon."

It doesn't roll off the tongue, does it.
It will be interesting to see what they actually call him - Spurge?

Spurgeon Seewald is a mouthful. It's too bad they didn't reverse the order of the names.

It's not like he's going to go to school with other kids who aren't directly related to him and get teased for his name, so... whatever floats their boat, I guess.

My first thought is the character Moody Spurgeon McPherson from the Anne of Green Gables series.

Makes me think of the movie "Deep Impact". Robert Duvall's characters name was Spurgeon. They called him "Fish".

The Duggar spawn have a TV special coming up. I wish there was a way to block all promos on my tv. Disgusted with this flock.

I think of fish eggs every time I hear it. A combination of that and sperm.
Hmmm...Fish Eggs and Sperm...is that the name of the latest Dr Seuss book?

Poor little Spurgy. Check out the Urban Dictionary definition for a good laugh. That is what I thought of. I knew a guy in college that had the nickname "spooge" for a while...it wasn't a good nickname! Poor kid!

Good thing he'll be home schooled, I can only imagine what kids would do with that name.

Bluntly, that's a stupid name. Even in the time period where it was popular it was still a dumb name. Calling the kid spud would have been smarter. But then again, this family group is not the sharpest tool in the shed and clueless about reality.
